Insights from Chapter 1
#1
The author knew Fred well, and he was a highly successful young man in a lucrative field. But even though he had everything, he didn’t have a wife or long-term girlfriend. He was surrounded by beautiful women, who had no interest in marrying or dating him.
#2
The post-marriage, post-partner world is one where the opposite sex is no longer the primary objective of the other. But for most people, this cryptic reality has not yet fully sunk in.
#3
The point of The Menu is for you to accept the uncomfortable truth that the opposite sex generally does not have an interest in marrying you. And in order to find alternative purpose and meaning in your life, you must look elsewhere before you die.
Insights from Chapter 2
#1
The why is ultimately unimportant. What’s important is what you’re going to do about it, and asking why is a tremendous mental burden that wastes resources. But while this stoic response to the things you can’t control is an idealistic response, we are only human.
#2
The social contract between men and women was what worked for humanity in the past. But modern people may find it outdated and even quaint.
#3
The only reason men and women would get together now is because they want to, not because they need to. And as a result, the only reason men and women would get together now is if they want to. Not need to.
#4
When it comes down to it, men and women are not all that interested in each other anymore. Men no longer need women, and women don’t need men. All that remains is what we want or desire, which is more expensive than what we need.
#5
You will never find another person who can fulfill your needs. And given the past choices and actions of both men and women, it is clear they do not want to deliver what the other wants. So it is in your best interest to find out what to do in life.
Insights from Chapter 3
#1
There are two general approaches to life: active and passive. The active approach is where you decide you will exert your desires and will on life.
