Whilst the greatest effort has been made to ensure the quality of this text, due to the historical nature of this content, in some rare cases there may be minor issues with legibility. The object of this little book is to supply, in a condensed form, such an outline of the principles, the practice, and the historical development of the art of Architecture as may be acceptable to those who, taking an intelligent interest in the subject, have not time or inclination to study more technical and detailed treatises. I have often been asked to recommend such a book, and having to reply that there was, as far as I knew, no such work in the English language, I have here endeavoured to supply the deficiency.
