Whilst the greatest effort has been made to ensure the quality of this text, due to the historical nature of this content, in some rare cases there may be minor issues with legibility. The reader is strongly recommended to study the work entire before attempting extended research in any single period, whether ancient or modem. The part is best seen in the light of the whole. More especially the instruction on the principles and development of art is indispensable to a proper understanding of the historic part found here or elsewhere.
