Description

Journey to the places and people involved in the Holocaust, Underground Railroad and First Nations People and discover God's call to Speak up for Life.

Life is precious.

Speak up for Life presents places in recent history that endured unprecedented attacks on life. Looking into some of the atrocities that have happened to God’s people and how easily life can be threatened can teach us how to live wisely in these uncertain times. Discover special people like Corrie ten Boom, the Midwife of Auschwitz and Kenny Blacksmith and how they lived and responded in the face of danger and hardship. Through vivid photography and beautiful artwork, unfolds true life stories that will challenge readers to speak up for life, stand in the gap, and be Jesus’ hands and feet in our culture today. Gently introducing controversial issues that are not often connected, each chapter immerses readers into a rich variety of resources. Dive deeper into studying Scripture in order to live an abundant life that brings God glory and carries His healing to the nations.

Securely based on a scriptural foundation, it provides a clever format in which to present true stories of real life heroes of the faith. They are of different ages, ethnicities, and backgrounds, but devoted to a common faith which is proven during adversity. Their stories are masterfully interwoven, well-illustrated and documented, and enhanced with the author’s personal reflections. The pervasive theme uniting these heroes is their life testimony of sacrificial love and protection of life as represented by, “the least, the lost, the broken, and the forsaken.”

The message of this book is clear, and compelling. Life matters! Human life must be valued and protected in culture and law from conception till natural death. Compelling pictures and stories make this accessible to high school students and adults.

Janice Huse, Artist

Speak Up For Life is a unique and wonderfully inspired teaching tool in the form of a book which I highly recommend for both student and parent alike.
So, what this book provides is not only historically accurate information but also inspirational examples of how God ministers His love through His people in the worst of times and hardest of situations. It is an appropriate blessing that those currently embattled to protect the lives of the unborn are included in this recognition of heroism.
If you are looking to inspire your family to protect those whom the Lord calls on us to protect, then, I certainly recommend Speak Up For Life .

Bill Davenport; Executive Director – The Valley Care Pregnancy Centre, Kentville, NS, Canada
The value of human life as made in the image of God is being undermined in today’s secular society. Sheryl’s book, Speak Up For Life highlights the Holocaust, abortion, eugenics, euthanasia, slavery, First Nations and in light of God’s love, she asks the piercing question, “What can we do but speak up and act for life?” These reflections will help to disturb your quiet, motivate your heart and inspire action in your life.

Chantel Carriere - Homeschooled 3 of 6 children, Ottawa Valley, Ontario, Canada
What a beautiful, insightful, knowledgeable book, with supportive references and relevant pictures. The paintings were beautifully coordinated with the topics. I highly recommend this book for homeschooling, or even regular schooling. It encompasses various levels of learning for various ages and depths of learning. This book helps you teach your kids how humanity suffering from places around the world ties us together throughout history, with true accounts of lives lived, while opening the door to in-depth learning. When one suffers, we all suffer.

Justin Kron, The Kesher Project
Sheryl’s heart and commitment to equip today’s generation of Christian students is beautifully captured and presented in this much-needed resource that defends the miracle and value of human life. This book is a must-read for any student who wants to stand up for the marginalized and dehumanized in our world. Don’t miss it!

Eliana Tremblay, 14 years old, Homeschool student
I really enjoyed this book. It was a pleasure to read it. I learned more about World War II and people like: Corrie ten Boom and Anne Frank, etc. I also learned more about how slavery ended in the U.S. and how we should speak up for those who can’t speak for themselves. I really liked the visuals in it. The paintings and pictures are definitely a good addition to the book. The links to videos and books were very useful when I wanted to know more about the subject. I appreciated having them. It is also a good idea to relate the content with Bible verses in each chapter and the questions helped to make us think. I highly recommend this book! Thank you Sheryl!

News Flash : Stan Elliott (pen name) is my 12 year old son. Our family enjoys reading and has recently discovered a love for history. We write stories as part of our homeschool education and because these topics are so important he willingly did some extra reading and wrote the ‘News Flash!’ sections found throughout this book.

Layout and Design : Some of the layout and design was done with my 8 year old son who loves buttons and trying cool new fonts and fun word art formats.

Editing: My husband read and re-read many sections of this book. He sees the details and is a good fine-tuner.

Going Deeper: I am very grateful to Michail Bantseev for editing and checking my Scripture passages and questions. He contributed the questions in the Going Deeper section. Thank you for sharing your insights and wisdom in this book.

Other Contributions: I am grateful to Janice Huse, Louise Campbell, Kenny Blacksmith and Denise Mountenay for their insights and contributions.
I am thankful to my parents who encouraged me to read when I was young, shared their faith with me, supported my travels and this book.

Foreword by Bert Dorenbos
Founder of Cry for Life, The Netherlands

Willy and I have been called to pro-life ministry for our whole lives. During our time as CEO of the Evangelical Broadcasting Channel (The Netherlands), we were challenged by the film called ‘The Silent Scream’ produced by Dr. Bernard Nathanson. We showed the film on our national TV station. The Lord spoke to our hearts and we decided to spend the rest of our lives protecting threatened unborn lives. More than forty years ago our ministry Cry for Life was born.
Now we are retired and 80 years of age. We are alive so our calling and ministry continues. We are so thankful to the Lord for connecting us with Sheryl while she lived in the Netherlands. She was a tremendous help correcting my Dutch drafts into proper English. We are very thankful for this blessing. Back in Canada, with her husband, Sheryl started painting beautiful artwork. Now she surprised us by writing an inspiring book dealing with subjects that are close to her and to us. Her account of our joint visit to Auschwitz is very impressive. The personal stories about the Polish midwife who rescued newborn babies and the testimony of Denise Mountenay before Israeli students visiting Auschwitz are inspiring. Sheryl also included a chapter about the Underground Railroad; retelling how slaves fled to freedom in the North. It is amazing how she linked all the stories to the basic principle to be pro-life. Sheryl’s creativity in adding other stories and a Dive Deeper section with more information are good. The Bible portions and questions in each chapter are very helpful for personal study and reflection.
There is reason to congratulate her in completing her manuscript. We expect to see more books from Sheryl in the near future. It is a blessing that she honours her two children in helping her to accomplish this new masterpiece of written art.
