Description

Enclosed lyrics have all been compiled using memories of past and present genres. The author has compiled each set of lyrics to blend with a sound or rhythm 'in his head' at the time and hopes that anyone, even with only minimal musical knowledge, will upon reading any of the lyrics, be inspired to take up or sit at their musical instrument and strum, pluck, tinkle, thump or blow a tune and have absolute delight. The author himself has no musical background or training in music and does not play any type of musical instrument not even badly--but does enjoy music thoroughly. This book could prove to be the start of a whole new thoroughly enjoyable musical experience.

About the Author
Brian Miller was born in 1944, Christchurch, U.K.
He started his career training as a carpenter and finished as an architectural designer and self-employed builder.
Brian always had an interest in writing—submitting comedy material to comedians, radio and television.
Following a chance meeting with Nick Clabburn, a lyricist, at Brian's daughter's Art Gallery he decided to try his hand at lyric writing that with positive encouragement from Nick has resulted in this booklet.
Brian hopes that anyone purchasing the booklet will have as much enjoyment from it as he has had writing it.

To my wife Carol

A Man of Words
(Inspired by Nick Clabburn – Ligger and Lyricist)
A man of words, writing for all creeds
With verse and with prose, sowing the seeds
As with abstract art, you seek, you find
A depth of meaning, peace of mind.
This man of words, that yearns for a score
This man of words, please give us more.
A man of words, writing all alone
Pleasure for others, cost of his own.
Words all have meanings, meanings need words
Using a pen, as others wield swords.
This man of words, that yearns for a score
This man of words, please give us more
A man of words, writing in the dark
Confidence of thought, a question mark
Modesty permits for others to say
This man of words, will have his day.
This man of words, that yearn for a score
This man of words, please give us more.
From double entendre to metaphor
For the French people it would be amour.
Oh man of words, that yearn of a score
Oh man of words, please gives us more
Oh man of words, need we say more
Oh man of words, we need more ‘n’ more.
A Man’s Got to Do
I know it’s not often, I say
The words that you like to hear
The reason is a busy life
And not because I do not care.
A man has many things to do
Just to bring home the bread
And so, I do apologise
For the sweet nothings left unsaid
Oh of all the old adages
There is one that’s very true
A man’s got to do
What a man’s got to do
It always seems someone’s out there
That I have got to go and see
And I know you must be thinking
Why is it that someone’s not me?
And so, to make amends, I thought
That we could go some place to eat
And follow on with some dancing
Even though I’ve two left feet.
Oh, of all the old adages
There is one that’s very true
A man’s got to do
What a man’s got to do.
Now, I can see you’re happier
You’ve sure got the sweetest smile
You know, those things I’ve to do
I’m sure that they can wait awhile.
Oh, of all the old adages
There is one that’s very true
A man’s got to do
What a man’s got to do.
A Tear in My Eye
Let us now step back and look
At what others know and see
You know, we could write a book
On how love could and will be.
When you are standing up close
Objects of art can seem unclear
Our love has beauty, like a rose
But those thorns are always near.
Here we go again – love’s like the tide that ebbs and flows
If you listen close – you can hear the water sigh
Here we go again – coping with the highs and lows
The intensity of love – it brings a tear to my eye.
It’s on and on that our love goes
Absorbing all time and our senses
It gathers pace and then it slows
It shows no respect for pretences.
We loved each other then
And we love each other now
Yet, there’s always been times when
We could have broken our vow.
Here we go again – love’s like the tide that ebbs and flows
If you listen close – you can hear the water sigh
Here we go again – coping with the highs and lows
The intensity of love – it brings a tear to my eye.
At times, we are on a roll
Feeling no one else around
Love is rarely under control
Faster than the speed of sound.
When emotions are mixed
When feelings run high
When emotions seem fixed
When there is a tear in the eye.
Here we go again – love’s like the tide that ebbs and flows
If you listen close – you can hear the water sigh
Here we go again – coping with the highs and lows
The intensity of love – it brings a tear to my eye
The intensity of love – it brings a tear to my eye.
Analysis
There is no lock upon the door
And the bars, they are unseen
I’d like to understand it more
To discover what it means.
The shackles seem so real
But there’s no links in the chain
Sometimes, hurt is what I feel
Yet I experience no pain.

What is this? – Life’s poetry rhymes.
The horizon, it is afar
I’m never able to get near
This situation, it is bizarre
And the reasons are unclear.
When I try to move away
We end up being very close
What is this medicine today
Being fed to me by the dose?

What is this? – Life’s poetry rhymes.
Appreciating other people’s sadness
Yet my own good feelings, I shall retain
This strange state of madness
Gives an allusion of being sane.
There is darkness all around
Yet, a brightness is there too
I’m sure a future can be found
For the likes of me and you.
Psycho babble or common sense
Is it the truth or merely pretence?

What is this if life’s poetry rhymes?
So, let life’s poetry rhyme.
