Description

Screech! Some major interference is coming through on Walden's hearing aid. But it's not the local radio station - it's a cry for help from the alien colonists called Arrok! Their home has been blasted apart by an asteroid. Can Mr K and his students help? Will the same thing happen to Earth? And will the citizens of Arrok demand that Dani stay and serve as their leader? There's never a dull moment in Mr Kazarian's spaceship . . . er, "library"! A science-fiction graphic adventure with lots of actual science - and lots of fun!

by Steve Foxe illustrated by Gary Boller
Welcome, Earthlings! You may call me Mr Kazarian.
(Human tongues can’t do thegymnastics needed topronounce my true name.)
While I take my dutiesas a school librarianquite seriously…
…I’m also a scientist from theplanet Pflittlehorn. I’m stationedhere on Earth to study thedominant species:
humans!
This device helpsme blend in.
(My natural form would lookterribly out of place amongyou four-limbed types.)

2
I never planned to reveal my missionto my Earthling students. But it’soften happy accidents that lead tothe greatest discoveries!
Now that my brilliant young students know who- and what - I am, I’ve been helpingthem explore the universe around them.
And while they learnabout the universe, Ilearn about them ! Fascinating creatures.
Hurry up,Mr K!
(TJ is stilllearning patience,it seems.)
There’s so much to explorebeyond planet Earth. Our onlychallenge is making it back toschool before Mrs Tsaonotices we’re gone!

Can’t you guyshear that noise? It’s so strange!
Huh? I can’thear anything.
Back to your seats, students.
Walden, yourhearing aid mightbe playing up.
Is it painful?
No, but it’sdistracting.
Dani, since you’re a schoolsafety officer, why don’tyou escort Walden to thenurse’s office?
Oh!

4
I don’t want you to miss outon the lesson, but if yourhearing aid needs adjusting, maybe the nurse can help.
You really can’thear that, Dani?
It almost soundslike a pattern.
I can’t heara thing! Itmust be afrequencyonly you canpick up.
Wait! I canmake out… words !
Words? Whatdo you mean?
Shh!
If I get justthe right angle,
I think Ican…

I hope Walden’s hearingaid is fixed. I thoughtthey’d be back beforeclass ended.
I’m surehe’s fine! Heprobably justpicked up thelocal radiostation again.
Quark! What are you doinghere? If Mrs Tsao sees you, she’ll have a sneezing fit.
Meaaaowwr!
I don’t speak cat, but I thinkthat’s the sign for “follow me”.
Quark ispointing towardsthe library!
I have to say, mymums are proud thatI’m spending so muchtime surroundedby books.
How many have youactually read?
Hey, our “library”adventures are justas educationalas books!
TJ, quiet! What ifsomeone hears?
Hears what?
Remember, Quarkfixed it so we say“librarian” when wereally mean…“you know what”.
Secret’ssafe withus!

Quark must beleading us to Mr K’ssecret “office”.
Maybe Walden andDani are alreadyback there.
Ah, Quark! Thankyou for fetchingthe rest of ourfearless crew.
In, in, quickly! There’smuch to discuss.
Yeah, what’s withthe Frankenstein head gear?

Our young friend Waldenpicked up an unusualsignal on his device.
I thought my hearing aidwas on the blink...
...but it turnsout it was amessage -- from space !
We came straight here so wecould talk about the alien signalwithout using code words!
Did the signal comefrom anotherPflittlehornian?
Oh dorplux, no. But we’ll soon knowwho did send it.
This is an antique mento-visualiserI picked up from an orbital jumblesale. If it still works, we shouldbe able to turn the signal Waldenreceived into a hologram.
I call dibs on themega-video-geysernext! I have loads ofideas that the worldneeds to see in 4D!
