orrie ten Boom was te youngest of four cildren in a Dutc family C known for teir Cristian zeal. hey invited soldiers, servant girls, and cildren wit mental disabilities to teir ome for meals, prayer, and Bible study. Corrie elped er moter in te kitcen and er fater in is watc sop. After special training in Switzerland, Corrie became terst woman in te Neterlands to become a licensed watcmaker. During World War II, Corrie became te organizer of a secret ring of eigty Dutc volunteers wo elped Jews escape te olocaust. Se and er sister Betsie designed a special iding place inside teir ome. Hey also developed a secret code to deliver messages safely. One day, betrayed by an informant, Corrie and er family were arrested by te German secret police. Hey were andcuffed, beaten, and sent to a deplor-able concentration camp in Germany, were tey lived wit meager food, over-flowing toilets, and biting fleas. Corrie smuggled a Bible inside er dress. It was never discovered even toug se was searced many times. After nearly a year, Betsie died. Corrie was eartbroken, but se was eventually freed to return to olland. Se wrote about er experiences in a popular book titledhe Hiding Place. Corrie traveled to more tan sixty countries, saring te good news about Jesus and forgiveness. Se said, “Never be afraid to trust an unknown future 2 to a known God.” Corrie died peacefully on er ninety-rst birtday, surrounded by friends and birtday bouquets from well-wisers around te world.
