Modern Day 2000-PRESENT
I n the age of social media and globalization, being a spy comes with a new set of challenges. In World War I, World War II and the Cold War, spies had a specific nation or group of nations they worked against to win a war. As the world moved more into the digital age, the scope of spying became much broader. Today, enemies can be countries, terrorist groups, leagues of nations or even individuals acting alone.
On 11 September 2001, the United States suffered one of the worst terrorist attacks the country had ever seen. The terrorist group, alQaida, consisted of a relatively small band of religious extremists bent on the destruction of the United States. Their successful terrorist attack spurred the United States and other countries around the world to develop new spying techniques, new cuttingedge equipment and new, knowledgeable recruits to meet the challenge of 21st century enemies and threats.
In this book, you’ll meet a few spies who have been exposed or caught, but most of today’s spies still hide in the shadows, working against their enemies. So, here you’ll get a glimpse of the new world of cyber spies and secret agents, and will learn along the way that anyone could be a spy next door. Even better, you might just learn that you have the skills of a modernday spy – how will you use your newfound talents?
