Note to Parents and Teachers
No More Bad Secrets was created as a resource for discussion with you and children in mind. We all desire to live in a perfect world that is free from our children becoming victims to sexual abuse, sadly this is not the case. This book was designed to open up the discussion of the “Taboo” topic that is oftentimes overlooked and swept underneath the rug.
It is statistically proven that 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys are sexually assaulted before the age of 18, even worse the ma- jority of these cases go unreported because the victims keep it a secret.
No More Bad Secrets deals with the “secret.” This kid friendly and age appropriate book engages as well as educates and empowers children on a very important topic on personal body safety. It takes children on a journey through a fictitious character named Sally based off of the Author’s personal real life story. This story is filled with rhymes and teaches children the basics on prevention such as:
The difference between good and bad secrets
The difference between appropriate and inappropriate touch
Who to turn to for help if they are keeping a bad secret
It is important Parents and Educators that you work together in support of one another to teach children who the trusted adults are in their life. Oftentimes from my personal experience children that are being abused feel like they are all alone, ashamed, embarrassed and they feel like they are at fault. The longer the abuse goes on the more guilty they feel and the less likely they are to confide in someone about the secret.
Although we have been trained to refrain from talking about topics that are uncomfortable this should not be one of them. Always remember if this topic is uncomfortable for you think about the child that is actually going through it. It is 100 times more uncomfortable for that child to process and handle what they are going through on their own.
I personally hope that your child, that child in your class or school, or that child that you watch after as a caretaker never has to be a victim of sexual abuse. But I know that this is not the world that we live in. Nevertheless you, we owe it to our children to teach them about their body and boundaries, reassure them that we have their best interests at heart and that they can confide in us with a “Bad” secret. More importantly that we intentionally educate ourselves and teach prevention as a means of protection.

Sally was a curious learner who was cool, just like any other kid in her school.
