I n this book, we’re going to talk about capitalism. So, let’s get right to it!

WHAT IS CAPITALISM?
I f a nation has a capitalistic economy, it means that private individuals can own property. In a capitalistic society, the government doesn’t own everything. For example, let’s say you want to go to the grocery store to buy something. You can go to any store you want and buy from any merchant. You can make your own choice about who to buy from.

A lso, if you buy a piece of property, such as a house or a piece of land, it belongs to you. Not all governments operate this way. In some countries, individuals are not allowed to own land at all. The government owns all the land and private individuals can’t own their own property.

F or example, in a communistic system the government controls all the land and businesses.
