Augustus was the first Emperor of Rome and was known for establishing the Roman Empire during his reign from 27 BC to 14 AD.





He was born in Rome, Italy on September 23, BC and died in Nola, Italy on August 19, 14 AD. Read further to learn about his childhood, his battles, his rule, and his death.

He was a short man, well-proportioned, and handsome. He also possessed a trait that was rare in rulers, he had grace. He did suffer with bad teeth and his health was generally feeble. He had many birthmarks on his chest and his belly and there were a lot of spots over his entire body.







At the time of his birth, Rome was still governed by a republic of elected officials. His name at birth was Gaius Octavius Thurinus, but typically he was known as Octavian until he grew older. Also known as Gaius Octavius, his father governed Macedonia. Atia, his mother was Julius Caesar’s niece.
