Princess Obnoxious
There was once a truly horrid little princess. The king, who was also her dad, was as kind hearted and merry as you could wish. Her mother, the queen, was gentle and sweet. Even her big brother, Prince Furdinand, never teased her or pulled her fur.
The princess had everything that a cub could desire, but this only seemed to make her worse!
Other cubs from all over the beardom were invited to play in the wonderful royal nursery. But the princess wouldn’t share her toys. She was so mean and spiteful that no one ever wanted to visit her twice.
The princess bullied her nanny and shouted at the cook. She even pulled the ears off her teddy. And if anyone dared to tell her off, she would just throw a right royal tantrum that lasted days and days.
Soon everyone did their best to avoid her and she was know throughout the beardom as Princess Obnoxious. The trouble was, the princess didn’t mind a bit! She liked being free to get up to mischief. The king and queen were at their wits’ end.
‘Whatever can we do,’ they wondered, ‘to make the princess just a little nicer?’
Her furry godmother was called to the royal palace for advice, but Princess Obnoxious just stuck her tongue out and made rude noises.
Then the Koalan ambassador tried ticking her off. The naughty princess just called him names and showed him her bloomers. In the end, even the king and queen gave up and left her alone.
Now it came about that a wicked ogre was terrorising the beardom. His name was Ursus the Unspeakable. Bold heroes came from far and wide to try to get rid of him, but the ogre just picked them up in his big paws and carried them back to his deepest dungeon. When his dungeon was full, he roamed the land bearnapping anyone he found and carrying them back to his castle to be his slaves.
Soon everyone hid away in their houses. The frightened little cubs obeyed their parents and did not go outside to play. All except Princess Obnoxious, who never did what she was told. She was quite happy to wander the beardom all by herself.
Then, one bright spring morning, on a day just like any other, Princess Obnoxious was out and about, when she was startled by a sudden roar.’ I am Ursus the Unspeakable,’ she heard. And she found herself face to face with the wicked ogre.
