Chapter 1 Roar!
Inside a small tent, Mike Evans lay
in his sleeping bag. A lamp flickered
next to him. Outside, frogs croaked in
the cool spring night.
Suddenly, a large shadow appeared
on the wall of the tent. A T. rex!
“ROOOAAR!!”growled a voice.
“Ahh!” screamed Mike, jumping up.
6
“Haha!” laughed Mike’s dad, Stanley.
He was twisting his hands in front of
the lamp’s light. “Not bad for a shadow
puppet, hey, Mike?”
“Very funny, Dad,” said Mike, settling
back into his sleeping bag. “Now I’ll
never sleep.”
8
“You should try to sleep,” his dad
said. “You never know, perhaps tomorrow
we’ll dig up arealtyrannosaurus rex.”
“Do you think?” Mike asked excitedly.
“If we’re lucky,” his dad replied. He
turned off the lamp. “Did you know
the first T. rex fossils were found –?”
“Here in Montana, USA in 1902,”
Mike interrupted.
“Wow!” his dad exclaimed. “You know
your dino facts! But did you know the T.
rex is a theropod, meaning –?”
“It walked on two legs instead of
four.” Mike laughed. “You asked me that
question last week, remember, Dad?”
