Lors de nombreux évènements officiels ou cérémonies spirituelles chez les Premières Nations du pays, un chant est entonné par les participants. Ce chant a vu le jour dans le coeur et la tête de George Paul, un Mi’kmaw de Metepenagiag, après un parcours ardu. Cet album illustré raconte la naissance de ce chant et l’importance qu’il revêt pour les Premières Nations.
At many official events or spiritual ceremonies among First Nations across the country, a song is sung by the participants. This song was born in the heart and mind of George Paul, a Mi’kmaw from Metepenagiag, after an arduous journey. This illustrated album tells the story of the birth of this song and its importance to First Nations.

George Paul est un auteur-compositeur-interprète, membre de la communauté de Metepenagiag au Nouveau-Brunswick. Il travaille depuis 30 ans à faire revivre la musique mi’kmaq traditionnelle. Pour lui, les valeurs traditionnelles de son peuple sont de la plus haute importance et il collabore régulièrement avec des écoles et des universités ainsi que des agences gouvernementales sur des dossiers autochtones.
George Paul is a singer-songwriter, who now lives in his childhood community, Metepenagiag First Nation, located in New Brunswick. He has been working on reviving traditional Mi’kmaq music for more than 30 years. Traditional Mi’kmaq values are of the utmost importance to George Paul and he regularly collaborates with schools and universities and government agencies on Indigenous concerns.
Loretta Gould est une artiste mi’kmaq originaire de la Première Nation We’koqma’q, située à l’ile du Cap-Breton, en Nouvelle-Écosse. Autodidacte, elle a vendu ses première peintures en Finlande et en Allemagne il y a une dizaine d’années et n’a pas cessé de créer depuis. Son art est spirituel et ses sources d’inspiration sont diverses : sa famille, sa communauté, sa culture et la nature qui l’entoure.
Loretta Gould is a Mi'kmaq artist who grew up in Waycobah First Nation in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. Self-taught, she sold her first paintings in Finland and Germany almost 1o years ago and has been creating ever since. Her art is spiritual and she draws inspiration from her family, her community, the Mi’kmaq Teachings and the nature all around her.

Voici l’histoire du chant d’honneur. Pendant longtemps, cette chanson était enfouie dans des larmes qui n’avaient pas encore été versées. Pendant bien plus longtemps encore, cette chanson était tissée étroitement dans les murmures d’un vent doux et chaud.

This is the story of The Honour Song.
For a long time, the Song was hidden in tears that had not yet been cried.
