Welcome to the pod!
Dolphins are curious, intelligentmammalsthat areadaptedfor spending their entire lives in water. Like other mammals, dolphins need to breathe air. They rise to the surface, open theblowholeon top of their head to breathe, then close the blowhole when they dive again.
Dolphins and whales There are 39 types orspeciesof dolphins living worldwide. Most, including the wellknown bottlenose dolphin, live in the shallower parts of oceans. A few types live only in rivers, such as the Amazon River in Brazil.

Dolphins have a sleek, pointed shape with a strong tail to swim fast.They use their flippers and dorsal fin to steer through the water.
