A royal engagement

On 16 November 2010, a smiling young couple appeared on TV screens around the world. Kate proudly showed off her engagement ring. William described how he had asked Kate to marry him. The exciting news spread rapidly. There was going to be a royal wedding!

A very special couple

William and Kate are no ordinary couple. Prince William is second in line to the throne of Great Britain. His grandmother is Queen Elizabeth II and his father is Prince Charles. When the queen dies, Charles will be king. Then William will rule after Charles. In the future, William and Kate may be crowned King William and Queen Catherine.

William and Kate have known each other for nine years.
