In 1453, after the fall of Constantinople, a large number of refugees fled from the Eastern Roman Empire to Europe. They brought with them Roman and Greek books that had been archived in Constantinople, and had not been seen in western Europe for centuries. With information and the invention of the printing press around 1450, the pace of learning accelerated in the Renaissance period in Europe.

Galileo Galilei -discovered the principle of inertia, building the stage for a rational view of motion. He also discovered that projectiles move with a parabolic (curved rather than straight) trajectory. He observed the moons of Jupiter and disproved the church’s teaching that all movement in the universe is centered on Earth. He found that the laws of motion are the same under all conditions on Earth.
