This picture book for children tells the story of a pony who works hard to overcome his physical limitations to become a hero and a leader of his herd.

Cocoa is a chubby, little pony. He’s the biggest small pony people have ever seen. He dreams of being slim enough to take little kids on trail rides. Cocoa embarks on an ambitious weight loss plan and exercise routine.

He works hard every day, but unfortunately, he doesn’t lose any weight. He’s fit, and he’s faster and stronger but not any smaller. Still sad, Cocoa is resigned to stay in the corral alone. Then, one day, a boy has an idea and Cocoa finally gets to join his friends on the trail.

This rhyming picture book for children shares Cocoa’s story, telling how his hard work propels him to be a hero and a leader of his herd.

Down a long country road, in a field grassy green,
Lived the chubbiest pony that you’ve ever seen.
With forty more horses and ponies there too,
Poor Cocoa the pony was feeling quite blue.
While all of the others were shapely and trim,
Poor Cocoa could not even hope to be slim.
He had always been plump for as long as could be;
It seemed he had been born as wide as a tree.
When he was a baby, it just didn’t matter.
But as he grew older, he kept growing fatter.
Cocoa had never been worried before,
But now he could not keep from worrying more.
