Most humans think Costa Rica has no army or other armed forces because Costa Rica has no human armed forces.  The country has an active security force.  I, General Loth, am in charge of the forces.  Sloths, birds, animals, frogs, etc. observe the forest. Caimans and crocodiles watch the river entrances.  Birds patrol the coasts as well as scanning the skies and the rivers. Since our forces are so numerous, there are always sufficient numbers on alert to be ready for anything.

 

La mayoría de los seres humanos cree que Costa Rica no tiene ningún ejército ni otra fuerza militar porque no tiene fuerzas humanas.  El país tiene fuerzas activas de seguridad.  Yo, General Loth, estoy encargado de las fuerzas.  Los perezosos, las aves, los animales, las ranas, etc. observamos el interior.  Los cocodrilos y caimanes observan los ríos.  Las aves patrullan las costas además de observar el cielo y los ríos. Como nuestras fuerzas son tan numerosas, siempre hay suficientes para estar listos para cualquier cosa.

This book is dedicated to Alanna Creager. When she was less than a year old, she visited her grandfather, Kevin Creager, also an author. He read my sloth books to her. Her first word was Mama; her second word was Pa (Papa). Her third word was ‘loth. (Who cares if she was too young to manage the s). She loved the photos of the sloths, even though she was too young to understand the words. Since her grandfather is also my nephew, I asked her parents, both ministers, Alex and Katie Creager, for permission to dedicate this book to her. Now you know why the chief of the Costa Rican Armed Forces is named General Loth, as she called him. Of course, Costa Rica has no human army, navy or air force. My inspiration: Years ago, I saw a T-shirt showing army ants, etc., representing the armed forces.
Dedicado a Alanna Creager. Cuando tenía menos de un año, ella visitó a su abuelo, Kevin Creager, también autor. Kevin le leyó mis libros de perezosos a ella. Su primera palabra fue Mama; su segunda palabra fue Pa (Papá). Su tercera palabra fue ‘loth, en español perezoso. (A quien le importa si era demasiada joven para pronunciar la s .) A Alanna le gustaban las fotos de los perezosos tanto. Porque Kevin es mi sobrino, les pedí permiso a sus padres a dedicarle este libro a ella. Ahora saben porque el jefe de las fuerzas armadas de Costa Rica se llama el General Loth. Claro, Costa Rica no tiene las fuerzas armadas humanas. Mi inspiración: Hace muchos años vi una camiseta en Costa Rica con el ejército de hormigas, etc., como las fuerzas armadas de Costa Rica.
