Extrait
Well-mannered Willa Orpington’s growing pains in the household nest after the arrival of quite the brood of chicks leads to a yearning for larger, more accommodating quarters. Her first big decision was to seek the help of professionals – a very wise decision indeed! Enjoy this delightful tale (tail?!) of the cosmic search for a place to roost we can call our own. The process along the way with its twists and turns is a genuine picture of real life, as we engage and rely on the talents and expertise of many others to bring our vision of the project to fruition.
— Bill Thompson, Architect; Wise, VA
Lincoln McCarthy sinks his teeth into a new book that uses a hen and her brood looking for a new coop and Lincoln’s trip to the dentist creates wonderful dialogue comparing the brushing and flossing of teeth to maintaining all sorts of daily items while using idioms to make readers chuckle.
— William T. Boland, DMD; Richmond, VA

Don’t Fly the Coop, Lincoln McCarthy! is both educational and entertaining. Readers of all ages will love how the author brings the animal characters to life through their realistic interactions in authentic situations that are designed to both teach and amuse. As a Realtor, I personally connected with Ess Crow in her handling of Willa’s real estate transaction--very accurate. Once again, Lincoln McCarthy and his friends have helped one another out in a true display of “community” in every sense of the word.
— Virginia Roberts, Realtor; Wise, VA
Don’t Fly the coop, Lincoln McCarthy is an incredible book! Elizabeth Fletcher is a real wordsmith. Excellent teaching tool for expressing idioms. As a contractor, I can relate!
— Roman Stufflebeem, Contractor; Wise, VA
As a mother who initially became a hen owner when my son participated in a 4-H extension project, I found “Don’t Fly the Coop, Lincoln McCarthy!” very endearing. The story of having to rebuild the larger henhouse for winter is entertaining, relatable, and educational. The animals’ voices and interactions within the story inspire imagination; I highly recommend this book for children!
—4-H parent and hen owner, Julia Potter, Wise, VA
