Welcome to the very first book written by
a guinea pig! Let me introduce myself.
I’m a 5-year-old, brown, white, and super fluffy guinea pig named Strange. My kid sister, Charm, is all-white and less fluffy, though I still love her.
YES, Strange and Charm are our REAL names. Our
big brother, Greg, gave us those names at the animal
rescue. That’s a place for animals without a family
Greg and his mom became our loving family. They treated me and Charm so well. As Greg read his science books, he’d feed us yummy carrots and lettuce through our cage.
And when Greg went to school and Mom went to work, me and Charm had fun talking with squirrels outside our window.
The squirrels told us about all of their adventures. They loved collecting crab apples and playing catch with them.
Of course, their favorite time of year was Halloween. That’s a special holiday for squirrels where they get to destroy pumpkins.
It all sounded so fun! I dreamed of having a guinea pig adventure.
Me and Charm tried our best to find adventures at home.
We snuck under Mom’s treadmill and imagined we were searching for pirates’ gold. But we found something better — lots of colorful, tasty-looking wires.
Guinea pigs love chewing more than kids love chocolate. The wires were so yummy!
But can you guess what happened when Mom tried to turn on her treadmill? NOTHING.
Greg helped Mom flip the treadmill over. Me and Charm didn’t help at all. We just hid behind a tall plant.
Even from far away, we could see teeth marks in the red, yellow, blue, and green wires. Mom was probably so mad. What if she didn’t love us anymore?
