Nicholas had been on vacation at his Grandma’s for three days already. Three days… Or, more precisely: three nights, three very odd nights full of strange noises!
Huddled under the blankets with his eyes wide open, each evening Nicholas heard the floorboards creaking on the stairs. But mainly what he heard, the thing that made him tremble, were little footsteps downstairs near the chimney.
When he told his Grandma about it, all she said was, “Well, let’s just hope we haven’t got mice! Nothing scares me more than mice!”
