Description

A magical adventure awaits young readers in, “Boo Who?,” when a precocious girl named Gracie, her dog, Sniggles, and their friends; Bob, a crotchety crow; Lucy, an eccentric cat; and an anxiety-filled squirrel named Ziggy, befriend a fearful little ghost, Boo Montague, at the Hocus Pocus Pumpkin Patch. Boo was shunned by the other ghosts because he’s cheerful, not spiteful and frightful. Gracie invites Boo to join them for Halloween. All is well until Sully the snail, who delivers the mail, arrives with a note from Annie Mc Fannie that reads, “Halloween has been canceled!” The gang embarks on an adventure to save Halloween, with help from retired wizard, Mr. Finkelstein. Tag along down Scaredy Pants Path, into Fairies Forest, and onward to Trick-or-Treat Trail searching for Creepy Street, while navigating all kinds of shenanigans and meeting whimsical characters along the way. Will the gang save Halloween, and Boo too?

To my mother, who always told me I had nothing to fear.
To my lifelong friend Amy Ferguson, who consistently gave me courage as I wandered into Fairies Forest, never allowing me to get discouraged.
To Gloria Archuleta, who popped all those bubbles of trouble and, without a doubt, helped me figure things out!
To Cathie Childers – your optimism and witticisms kept my skepticism away as I started down scaredy-pants path.

Boo Montague, that’s who!

Chapter 1
All Hallows’ Eve

It was a chilly gray day. The leaves were falling, and winter was calling. ‘Twas the season the trees undressed for a long winter’s rest. That was the reason the leaves flitted and floated down to lie on the ground. Yellow, orange, and red made a blanket for a cozy garden bed. There was no green to be seen. It would soon be Halloween.
“My favorite time of year is here!” Gracie let out a big cheer. She rummaged through her bag of tricks – a large collection of colorful costumes, decorations, frills, and thrills for All Hallows’ Eve. “I know it’s in here somewhere,” Gracie mumbled.
Sniggles sniffed. Then he wiggled and waggled as the decorations and costumes tumbled onto the ground.
“Here it is!” Gracie spotted a whopping wizard’s hat. “Now if only I can find my magic cloak.”
Bob the crow fluffed his black feathers. He was amazed as he gazed at all the stuff Gracie had assembled. A twinkle in the pile caught Bob’s eye – something he’s spied from way up high. He swooped down and plucked a shiny crown off the ground. Lucy the cat lounged in the tree, clipping her claws. She paused. Curious, she asked, “Is that my crown you have found?”
Bob frowned. “If you want your crown,

maybe you should come down.”

Ziggy the squirrel popped up from beneath the pile

in a tux and tails that made everyone smile.

“You silly little clown. You turned Bob’s frown upside down!” Gracie giggled. Sniggles jiggled and joggled through the pile. He then wiggled and waggled because he had completed his task: he had sniffed out his pumpkin costume and mask.
Gracie and Sniggles got word from a bird that the pumpkins in the patch were ready to hatch. They set out to explore, heading down Pirates Path to find Hocus Pocus Pumpkin Patch. The word from the bird was that this is where the best pumpkins were.
They walked and they talked about ghouls, fools, and goblins on their way to pick their pumpkin. It wasn’t a far walk but a rather short walk from here to there. The leaves swished as they twirled, and swirled as they swished.

Through the leaves they went. The sound made Sniggles very hungry. “I think I’m feeling like a snack. A sn-ackle-lolli-astic-extra-pur-fur-li-cious kind of snack.” He paused and thought, then he waggled, “yes. I am a bit hungry for a snupper.” Gracie giggled and replied, “We’re almost there. Night is nearly here. No time for a snack before supper!”
