T he Nichols family lived in the bustle of the city, several hours from relatives rarely seen.
At the dinner table one night, Dad cleared his throat. “I have a note to read from your Aunt Eliza.”
Dear Cousins and Siblings,
It’s the fourth Saturday in March, and that means it is family reunion time. Be at the Pioneer Park Pavilion at noon. Hope you can come!
“What is a reunion, and who is Ee-lie-za?” little sister Alisson said.
Dad patted Alisson on the head. “It’s a family tradition where we can get together once a year with our relatives. We haven’t been to one in a while. In older days, it was an official holiday to hold family picnics and clean the gravesites throughout the community. As for Eliza, she is one of your aunts who organize the reunion.”
Alisson still looked unsure.
