WHERE IS ENGLAND?
I f you look at a map, you will see that the country of England is part of the United Kingdom, along with the countries of Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. Both the northern and southern sections of Ireland are part of one island.

T he Irish Sea is between the country of Ireland and the island of Great Britain. The waterway called the English Channel separates England from France. An underwater tunnel that connects England to France, nicknamed “The Chunnel,” opened in 1994. Passengers can get from one country to the other via high-speed train in about 35 minutes.





M any people confuse the terms England, Great Britain, and the United Kingdom and they are incorrectly used to mean the same landmass. However, they are not the same thing at all! England is one of the three nations on the island of Great Britain along with Scotland to its north and Wales to its west. These three nations with just the northern section of Ireland make up the United Kingdom.
