T he Renaissance was a wonderful golden age that spread from Italy throughout Europe. Culture in the form of literature, poetry, architecture, paintings, and sculpture thrived and new ideas blossomed. Science was emerging as were new forms of religion. The Humanist philosophy had a profound impact as well. Many people became famous during the Renaissance and their legacies live on today.
Statue of Dante
Dante Aligheri (1265 to 1321)
D ante was a poet and philosopher who lived in Italy. He is best known for his epic poem called The Divine Comedy. Written in Italian in the first person, The Divine Comedy is a journey through the afterlife.
D ante travels through hell, then purgatory, and finally heaven. Virgil, the Roman poet, guides Dante through hell and purgatory, but in heaven he’s reunited with his eternal love Beatrice as she guides him.
