Glossary
Prologue
Yermin sat on his throne relishing the aura and power that he had received since the extermination of Zelmut. For many years he had served Zelmut faithfully and had submitted to his rule. Zelmut had been kind and had treated him and the other Warriors well at the beginning, however, Zelmut’s passion for power and his vision to rule the Universe had overshadowed his sense of judgement and this had made him a liability to Planet Mars.
Towards the end, he had begun to treat Yermin like a slave and many times had threatened to have him terminated. It was obvious that his desire to rule the Universe and be the ultimate power had clouded his judgement and had led him to make many bad decisions. It had been the time for change to be made.
Yermin strolled around his control room with an air of authority that he felt was justified. Control was now in the right hands and he fully anticipated success. Within a short while he – Yermin would be the ruler of the Universe. However, there was a lot to accomplish before this could take place and he intended to take his time and not rush into things haphazardly.
Expert planning had always been his main strength. He had never been one for commencing something until he was satisfied that it would work. Now after months of exploring the possibilities and checking and re-checking his strategy, he felt the time was right.
“Yes, I am pleased with myself,” he mused, “and why not? This time the plan, my plan, will be successful. Zelmut always stole my plans. There was never ever any serious planning from him, especially towards the end. He relied heavily on my guidance. The problem was he always insisted on adding things or changing the plan at the last moment. Not this time. This plan is my plan and it will be put into action and will succeed.”
He had become so excited that he had not realised that he had actually been shouting and that his words were echoing around the room gaining strange glances from the dedicated Technical Martian warriors who faithfully sat at their terminals examining data that came through in endless reams.
Yermin pressed a button adjacent to his throne and instantly a sliding door opened revealing two Martian warriors. Yermin beckoned to them, they obeyed and came towards him finally standing in front of him. They stood before him each only about four feet tall in identical dark maroon tight body suits and boots. Their large slanting eyes viewed him as they waited for their orders.
“Ah Panyentita and Nickcosio,” he began, “it is good to see you looking so fit. You have trained very hard over the past two months for this mission. Do you feel that you’re ready for it?”
“We are ready Your Highness,” Panyentita answered. “As you rightly say, your servants have dedicated themselves to the success of this mission. We will not let you down.”
“What about you, Nickcosio?” Yermin asked. “Are you ready?”
“I am Your Highness,” Nickcosio replied. “I have lived for this moment.”
“Good,” said Yermin, “I am glad to hear it. Right this is the plan.”
Yermin sat them down at a nearby aluminium table and pointed to a monitor that was in the middle of the table.
“As you can see from the screen, the mission is to take you both to Planet Earth to find The Wishing Book. The former Highness, Zelmut, always insisted on calling it the little red wishing book. However, there is nothing little about what the book can achieve. In the right hands it can change our lives forever and you will both be rewarded very well for successfully bringing it to me. Are you with me so far?”
“We are, Your Highness,” they both replied.
“Good,” Yermin said.” Right, this is the plan. Panyentita, you are to go to a place in Dorset to observe the Carter family. I want you to gain as much information as you can about them and what they are doing. The young Carter humans have twice succeeded in visiting our Planet and escaped back to Planet Earth. Each time, they had The Wishing Book with them. You will have to be flexible with your strategy as things will change and you will have to make decisions in order to bring the book back to me.”
“Nickcosio,” Yermin continued, “you will go to Los Christianos in Tenerife. Again, I want you to observe them, gathering as much information as possible. They have The Wishing Book. I am certain of that. I want you to find where it is and secure it for me. You too will have to alter your strategy to keep up with their plans. Do what you have to do to make this mission work. I want The Wishing Book!”
Yermin got up from the table and strolled around with an air of authority and confidence. He had waited for this moment and relished the fact that he was going to be successful.
“I have decided that you will take one of the Zupers to Planet Earth. In the past, other warriors were beamed there. It is risky, I agree. The journey will take longer than beaming and your space carrier may be noticed. However, I personally feel it is the right thing to do as you can keep in constant contact with me and receive further orders. To give you reinforcements, I am going to beam Martian warriors who will set the plan in motion. They will also deal with some things so that you can be free to do the real work. They will know who you are and will make contact with you so you have no need to worry. You must however, ensure that the Zuper is kept hidden when it is not in use. Now go and keep in contact with me via the Zuper.
“It will be better if I drop Nickcosio off first at his destination in Tenerife, Your Highness,” said Panyentita. “I will then go to the Carter home, hide the Zuper but keep in contact with you. Nickcosio can have one of the radios to update me. It will work better that way.”
“That is totally in order,” replied Yermin. “It is good that you are making decisions for yourself. Flexibility will bring you success. Actually, as long as the control panel is left on in the Zuper, you will both be able to use the radios to report back to me. They have an amazing range.”
Yermin watched his faithful warriors depart and felt like patting himself on the back for such superb planning.
“In just a short while,” he said, “I will be the greatest of rulers.”
The Novel
One
“ Are we really going back to Los Christianos dad?” John asked as they sat having breakfast. It was Saturday and the Carter family always enjoyed a traditional fried breakfast together each week. It gave them all something to look forward to as the day was usually more relaxed than the normal hustle and bustle of week days.
“Yes,” Mr Carter replied, “we’ll go for half term in February. It’ll only be for a week but it’ll be a break.”
“That will be lovely,” said Sally Carter, the children’s mum. “We’ve just got Christmas out of the way and I’m looking forward to relaxing for a few days in the sun.”
“Will it be hot then?” asked Penny.
“Yes,” replied their dad, “it’s hot all the year round there. I suppose it will be about 22C but that’s much warmer than it will be here.”
“That’s great Dad,” said John. “Can Jimmy and Aaron come with us as well?
“Of course,” he replied, “as long as their parents agree. Why don’t you go and ask them? I’ll go and ring Pedro and let him know our plans. He’ll be as pleased as punch.”

John and Penny walked the short distance to Jimmy’s house. Life had hardly settled down since their return from Planet Mars. They had arrived home safely and had then gone on a fabulous holiday to Tenerife. They had not been able to believe it when they had found that their villa was right next to Pedro Armaz and his family. Even though they had not been able to discuss the trip, they had still had a lovely time and their parents had become firm friends with the Armaz’s.
“I hope Jimmy can come,” said John as he knocked on his front door, “it won’t be the same without him.”
“Yes and Aaron too,” said Penny, who had become quite close to him since their last two trips.”
“Yes, of course,” replied John as Mrs Swift opened the door.
“Hello you two,” she said, “have you come for Jimmy? He’s upstairs in his bedroom with Aaron.”
The two of them went inside and were just going up the stairs when Penny turned round and spoke to Mrs Swift.
“Mrs Swift,” she said. “Dad’s taking us back to Tenerife next month, you know to the villa. Would Jimmy be able to come again? It’ll be half term so he won’t miss any school or anything.”
“I’m sure that’d be okay,” she replied. “But I’ll have to speak with his dad first. He’ll be all right about it though, I’m sure.”
“Oh that’s great,” said John smiling broadly at the prospect of his best friend joining them again.

“What, you’re going to Tenerife again?” shouted Jimmy, “that’s ace. I hope Dad let’s me go with you.”
