An old, solitary monkey lived in a large fig tree on the river bank. He spent his time savouring the figs and throwing them into the water for fun.
A turtle swimming at the foot of the tree found a fig, ate it and warmly thanked the monkey, thinking that he had offered it to him out of friendship. Since then they have been devoted friends.
