Acknowledgment
My true gratitude to all who lead to the completion of this work. It is really magnificent how cooperation may contribute to a great and faster also more advanced levels of skills mastery and development in the field of literacy in general and languages in particular. Deep gratitude to the people who helped make it possible. Also, for those who kept facilitating my work so their assistance was really valuable and appreciated and will always be.
Dedication
This book is dedicated to my beloved family and friends, also to students and colleagues who kept encouraging me and motivating me as a scholar and author of this book. I think it will benefit as many individuals as possible inside and outside the borders of North America. I wish it will evoke development all over the world in various fields mainly reading and writing for the native speakers of the language and learners whatever that language might be.
Chapter One
Introduc tion:
Writing and reading are very important for literacy. Literacy is very essential for development and advancement of civilizations. To develop both, though they occur naturally without the interference of the outsiders, the human being is designed to acquire a language to communicate with the setting, background or the environment around, whether suitable, similar or different environments, human being is equipped with everything he might need to live and thrive, develop and grow.
Solving problems and finding solutions are one of the many tasks of the mind and intellectuals. The smarter you are, the most effective and efficient problem solver you become. Intelligence is not something fixed, yes it is important but it can be boosted to reach its best capacity possible.
Writers have the capacity to produce literature that can be read by others so they are generous people who are able to communicate their opinions and ideas also sharing knowledge with others. To have it in writing is the highest rank of knowledge. Many scientist can do anythings but they can not share their findings because they simply cannot or sharing might cause them harm or to be in trouble. Thus the bravest are those who write. There is also those who support to amplify the voice of others who can not or not strong enough to have a loud voice to express themselves, those are the most generous and can be the closest to the messengers who speak up for others. Their generous nature makes them more nearer to the heart.
Thus words are not hollow alphabets put together to mean something. It is way more than this. A word is a creation, manifestation, a will and a matter, existence and a revelation. A world to the smart is more than enough to convey a message that lasts forever and may remain until the end of the times. Or maybe after. A word is a life a word is commitment a word is the universe and beyond. Whether written or spoken, the result of a word can connect, gather, solve, create, change many results. Change is a character that categorize humans and creatures in general and stabilizing changes lead to balance, important feature of the universe without it, galaxies may vanish forever.
The most important language components and comes before learning a skill is the language components and that is vocabulary, yes grammar is important but having a rich store of vocabularies especially nouns can make a language or can lead to communication that is very essential to every species. Thus children or learners of a language are like an empty bowl that you have to keep filling with words and expressions so s/he will use later in a similar situation. Role play is very important mainly for children and non native speakers of the language.
Units of the lang uage
In every language, there are phonemes, allophones, morphemes and phones that lead to put words together. The smallest unit that carry meaning is called morpheme; It is the basic Mose essential morphological unit meaning-bearing unit of language. It is derived from the Greek morphé that basically means form or shape of the sound produced.
What are Morphemes? From where they are generated? How they first emerged into language u sage?
Morphemes are the meaningful morphological unit (and not phonological only) of a language that can convey a meaning add information to the meaningful unit and deleting it would influence the interpretation and may reverse the meaning of change the tense and time of occurrence, phase and even the action itself or the derivation of the meaningful unit.
It can not be divided into smaller units like that is the smallest unit that carries meaning so dividing it smaller that the combination in its form, will definitely change it to become meaningless with no morphological purpose; mainly in lexical function but not category. So this morphological element is considered functional in a linguistic system. It is not equal to word as both are meaningful but morpheme do not stand alone by itself as it is part of the whole word, such as pre-fix, suffixes or root words.
Yet, free morphemes that may stand alone such as dog, gentile, picture, are meaningful and can be considered morphemes. So we have first a priority to study different morphemes and their shapes, forms and where they are positioned in bigger meaningful units such as words.
There are different types of morphemes, free morphemes and those are the ones that can stand by themselves as unit that carry meaning where are the other type is the bound morpheme. They are either, derivational or inflectional. Whatever their type is they should be functional. Functional morphemes are linguistically speaking building blocks for language acquisitions. And when the morpheme can stand by itself it is considered to be root. Because it has a meaning of its own.
Grammatical function is important so morpheme are the form that tell us the grammatical function which adds meaning, change it, reverse it or simple add more meaning to it that alter and transform the meaningful blocks formerly formed that makes it different than the latter one after the addition of deletion of the morpheme, the morphological unit that carries meaning. Some examples on morphemes are morphemes that consists of three morphemes such as “unbreakable”. This is composed of three morphemes: the prefix, un- which is a bout morpheme that carries the reversible morpheme meaning not. Then the root which is break, and that is for sure a free morpheme.
Then finally the affix, -able, that carries the meaning of “can be done”. There are the plural morphemes for regular nouns and they are known as allomorphs. Phonetically speaking they are pronounced /s/, /-z/, /ɪz/ or /əz/ depending on the final sound of the nouns’ plural form.
Allophones are the alternative sounds for letter various prescriptions for the same produced sound. So for each sound (voice) there is a written prescription for the sound produced from its natural organs of production, might be two or more than this. Allophones stand as an alternative sound for a letter (alphabets) or group of letters in a ord. So it is predictable variant of a known phoneme. For example, the allophone of the English phoneme /t/ can be an aspirated t as in top, an un-aspirated t as in the word stop and flap sound produced for pronunciation of tt as in batter.
Thus we can conclude that allophones are the pronounced sound for the written phonemes different representations of the written letter or letters together. Thus according to other surrounding letters, the pronunciation of the letter/s differs, affected and altered due to a companion letter/s or location, at the beginning, middles, at the end after s sound, double letters so any of the variant forms of the phoneme as conditioned by position or adjoining and sound surrounding that letter/s.
It is exactly like a person who is a friend of someone, show me your friend and I can tell you some of your characteristics. It is the effect of other letters on the production and the sound during the process production of utterance of a particular letter coming close to or nearby accompanied with other surrounding letters that may affect the sound production and differs from when producing the sound when the letter is by itself.
The difference between utterances and sente nces
While utterance stands for a complete communicative unites, sentences need at least one clause and any accompanying subordinate clause and has to be marked with one of the well known punctuation marks such as (capital letters, comma, colon, semicolon, full stop, etc..). in Linguistic performance, both are equally important as both are important, the production and the comprehension.
