CHAPTER 1

Monday - Cory
I slept in late on Monday, which was frustrating because I had a lot to do. Above all, I wanted to go to see Danny so that I could talk to him about the drugs I had found when we were at the party at Sky’s old home.
I rolled out of bed quickly and stretched, before I got dressed and headed downstairs. I’d missed my mom making breakfast, but she’d left me some pancakes in the fridge that were ready to be heated up. I turned on the microwave and walked over to the coffee maker, so that I could fill it and turn it on.
“Cory, is that you?” My mom called through from the living room.
“Yeah, it’s me,” I called back, although I don’t know who else she might have been expecting in her kitchen. “I overslept.”

“Thanks, mom,” I said with a smile. I put the envelope down so I could pour a mug of coffee, which was freshly brewed and filling the air with an intoxicating and tempting smell that warmed my insides and forced my brain to start waking up.
“Aren’t you going to open it?” She asked and she looked disappointed when the microwave bell rang and I walked over to fetch my pancakes.
“Sure mom. I’m just going to have my breakfast first,” I said, as I walked over to the table with my mug and plate.
My stomach was growling for something to be put inside of it and, in truth, I wasn’t ready to open the letter. I still didn’t know what I wanted it to say. I still didn’t know which college I wanted it to be from or what reaction I wanted them to have. How could I open the letter before I knew what I was hoping for?
I chewed on my food slowly and tried to ignore my mom, who had decided to hover in the room. I thought about what I’d felt like when I’d filled out the applications. I’d applied for all the colleges in states that I wanted to visit. I chose colleges which I thought might give me the best chance at really experiencing what life had to offer.
But I had Sky to show me new e
