Description

Cory had lived in Denver all his life and he’s getting pretty restless. When he realizes that the most exciting day of his life was when a dog broke into the school, he realizes that he needs to do something about it. The only problem is that not much goes on in Denver, and that doesn't look like it’s about to change any time soon. Sky has spent her entire life dealing with the fact that her parents abandoned her. She thinks that it doesn't affect her, but when she meets a guy who might just be perfect the cracks become apparent. Sky doesn't believe in love. Or, to be more specific, she doesn't believe that anyone can love her. So when she turns up in Denver and catches Cory’s eye, it will only lead to disaster, right?

CHAPTER 1

Monday - Cory
I’m 17 years old and so far the most exciting day of my life was when a dog managed to break free and get into my school. Actually, that sounds as though it could have been pretty exciting. You know, a wild dog breaks into a school full of children; they’re all backed into a corner watching the foam dripping slowly from its jowls. That of course is not what happened. It was a poodle, to start off with. It was a small, toy poodle that had somehow managed to chew through its lead. It took the janitor nearly half an hour to catch it and then our day went on as normal.
I don’t think it’s because I’m a boring person, though, I just live in a city where nothing ever seems to happen. Don’t get me wrong: living in Denver had some great advantages. The scenery, for one is beautiful. But scenery doesn't make up for the lack of excitement the town has to offer. It just means that you have something pretty to look at while you stare out of the window because you are bored.
My life had been a pretty good one, if you ignore the part about it being boring. My mom and dad were still married, which was more than half the kids in my school could say. They seemed to be happy together still, too. They completed each other in a way that made me aspire to have what they had, but again that seemed impossible where we lived and among the people of our city.
My school wasn’t exactly small, but I knew most of the girls in my dating range. I’d even dated a few of them, but it had never worked it. It wasn’t them, although I suppose they should share half of the blame if I’m being fair to myself. They just weren’t the right girls for me. They were nice, they laughed at my jokes and smiled whenever I caught their eyes, but they didn’t complete me. They didn’t bring anything to my life that I hadn’t already had. I needed someone who could bring me more.
I needed someone who could pull me out of my rut. I needed someone who would take my hand and demand that I take part in their adventures, because I couldn’t seem to find any of my own. That girl wasn’t at my high school, though. I was pretty sure that she wasn’t even in my city and I’m not overly convinced that she’d be found within my state, either. She was the impossible girl of my dreams and I wasn’t sure whether I’d be able to find her anywhere outside of those dreams.
“Dude, you look totally out of it,” Danny said to me, so that I would pull my attention back into the classroom. We were sitting in science and the room held a feint chemical smell that seemed to burn away at the hairs in my nose and make my skin feel itchy.
“Yeah I guess I was.” I ran my hand through my hair to make sure that it wasn’t sticking up from where I’d been leaning on it, and then I turned my eyes to the front of the class. “This guy really knows how to keep someone’s attention, huh?” I murmured, as I tried to catch up with what the teacher had written on the board.
