Description

Lies in Love is a novel to seduce you into loving and hating its characters at the same time. Have you ever met someone and the connection was so effortless, you questioned it, yet it was so intense that you couldn't turn away? The book follows the love story of Lilly and Dale, two young lovers who overcome harsh obstacles as their lives become firmly entrenched together. As their romance unfolds, it becomes evident that the people in their lives are bound together in different ways; their stories entwined with each other. The author, Rachel Taufer, lovingly provides her readers pieces of the puzzle, gradually exposing different aspects of the characters. She delves deep into their inner thoughts, desires and the secret lives they lead behind closed doors. Power struggles, relationships, love, grief, anger and sex bind the characters together. Their paths cross at different points in their lives, culminating in an event that brings each character to the same place as they make connections with each other that they had previously overlooked. Lies in Love is a lip-biting book to enjoy reading between the sheets. Embrace your inner romantic and unleash your inner vixen.

Prologue
Dale stood beneath the archway of the white wooden gazebo. Flowers laced the window walls as they curved their way up to its roof. The musicians began to play a sweet symphony of sound and holding his hands together in front of his belt buckle, Dale stood tall and proud, his chest puffed out with gleeful anticipation. Sun sparkled through the leaves of surrounding trees and birds sang gently in the distance. Emily appeared at the end of a grassy isle, marked out with white flower petals. She scattered more petals about as she happily skipped towards Dale. Her golden curls bounced around her face, a diamante clip securing some, but not all, of her locks. Emily reached Dale and he lifted her up holding her proudly in his arms. Emily pointed down the aisle and Dale saw a magnificent sight. There she stood, a slim-fitting white dress hugging her feminine curves, ebbing away from her ever so slightly underneath her bust. It was detailed with fine lace that housed tiny sequins and pearls that glimmered with each step she took towards Dale. Her face was veiled with a translucent material, but Dale could see beneath it and she was truly glowing. Dale slowly lowered Emily to the floor. Lilly approached him and the pair held hands, not losing eye contact for a moment.
“You are beautiful,” Dale mouthed to his bride.
And she mouthed back, “I love you.”
As the pair exchanged vows, Dale knew his world was now complete and upon kissing his new wife, he held her tightly and felt a warmth emanating from her womb. The pair now shared a happy secret and were finally in their own perfect world again.
The day was filled with celebrations and dancing. Dale had his photo taken with his family for the first time in a long time, Lilly now confident to show the bravery that she wore on her face and neck. There were still embers left from the fire, but the blaze had been put out and Lilly’s natural beauty shone through, leaving the fragile tissue no chance of taking any more time away from their family.
As the pair left in a car later that afternoon, they waved farewell to their family and friends, Emily being held by her Uncle Nick whilst Aunty Lottie cradled baby Mona. Dale sat at the wheel, he felt they had come full circle. Dale’s heart skipped a beat as they were alone once more, infectious with love and lust, Lilly being able to share herself with him again. He knew from the first time he saw her he would love her forever. They drove on in silence down a quiet highway towards their awaiting honeymoon bungalows in the mountains, their contented breaths the only noise surrounding them. The orange foliage of the trees that lined the road seemed to stretch up to the sky, licking it like flames, yet the pale blue-grey sky, splashed with swirls of pink as the sun set behind them calmed these flickers. It was amazing to them both how trees rejuvenate after enduring the heat of a fire. Dale placed his hand across Lilly’s abdomen; she smoothed her hand across his thigh and they exchanged a loving glance. Lilly looked radiant as ever, refreshed, anew. This was the beginning of the next chapter in their lives.
Lies in Love

Lillian
A single tear fell to the floor. The silence around her caused the saltwater droplet to pound onto the hard wooden surface with such force, the thump it made echoed around her. Suddenly, she had found herself all alone, standing in the darkness, the noise of her nervous swallowing ringing out in her head.
Lillian’s heart thumped in her chest erratically. Gone was its usual gentle rhythm. Now her heart pounded more fiercely than it had done in all its life. ‘ Can anyone hear me? ’ she wondered. Her hands began to shake. ‘ Run! ’ she thought, but her feet were frozen, anchored to the ground as if she had been carefully placed in a vat of quick drying cement. Heavy though her movements were, the single high-pitched scream of her daughter was all she needed to awaken her body into action. ‘ Emily, ’ Lillian thought, ‘ you’re here? YOU’RE HERE! ’ Disoriented by all the smoke, Lillian was now sure she was not alone.
Frantically, Lillian scrambled from room to room, clinging to the smooth door frames as she struggled to hold her balance. Time seemed to slow, almost stop, as her movements required every ounce of energy she could yield. Then thump! Lillian’s head hit the wooden floorboards, hard. The smoke and heat had been too much for her now frail body. She opened her eyes, the blue of her irises dulled by the grey cloud that enveloped her, then blackness fell all around her.

Dale
The fluttering sounded like thunder roaring in from the wild ocean. Dale looked up, and over his left shoulder a large grey moth had landed on the street lamp that flickered beside him. The cold of the night made each breath chug out from his soft pink lips like clouds of smoke. The moth’s blood eyes stared down at the man, hunched over against the rough brick wall. Although he knew the moth was blind, they shared an affinity within that moment. Dale reached into his jacket pocket, grateful for the warmth the leather, once owned by an animal of some sort, now provided him. He pulled his mobile from his pocket and as Dale began to feel for his keys the phone lit up and her name flashed in lights. The vibrations from the handset combined with his nervous excitement mirrored the shaky movements of the moth’s trembling wings. For the moth was blindly led to the light of the flickering street lamp as he had been so blindly led to her warm glowing chest that first night together, what now seemed like many summers ago.
Instantly he was taken back to that initial encounter, when he had met the most beautiful and alluring woman he had ever laid his almond eyes upon. The music played out loudly at the Summer Haze club that December evening. Dale was drinking his usual pale ale with a few of his work mates, trying to forget the week that had just gone and drift into an abyss of relaxation and intoxication. Being only in his early twenties, Dale had worked hard most of his life doing many part time jobs throughout high school and was now working as an apprentice electrician earning enough cash to just scrape by each week and stay on top of the household bills. Even so, every Friday, Dale went to the local club Summer Haze and enjoyed every drop of well-deserved beer.
Dale took another swig of his pint, enjoying the trickle of bubbly froth as it slid down his throat. It was a stark contrast to the blistering heat of the previous day. Then he saw her. Tall, long brown hair that fell in soft curls around her angelic face, porcelain skin that glowed, beautiful breasts that formed a perfect crevice, hips that ached to be held, and legs as long as the hot summer days. December was so good at delivering. Everything else in the room slipped away as Dale found himself propelled towards this mysterious creature. His friends stayed at the bar, leaning against its smooth surface like birds on a branch. “What is he playing at?” Mark quipped.
“No idea mate, but he can’t be serious. That boy don’t know how to dance,” Jim replied as they watched stunned as Dale made his way to the dance floor. Though Mark and Jim won’t admit it, they too felt the force that had entranced Dale and was now luring him to this beauty.
She had seemed so distant to Dale but now he was in the thick of the dance floor. Sweaty bodies rubbed up and down his chest and back as he edged closer to her. The thumping of the music pounded louder still. Then she was there, in front of him, her movements graceful as a ballerina, yet sensual and oozing sexuality. Now Dale was close enough to see her features clearly, her long neck, full lips and then as their eyes met for the first time, Dale became lost in pools of crystal blue. She smiled and Dale managed to yell, “Hi, I’m Dale.”
“What?” she called back.
“Dale, my name is Dale, and you are?”
“Oh, Daniel, it’s Lilly,” she smiled.
At that moment with lights flashing about, the sea of partygoers moving like the tide, Lilly was bumped from behind, and suddenly Dale and Lilly held each other in a tight embrace. No words were needed; they both knew what they wanted. They became entangled in the swirl of bodies dancing alongside them. Dale and Lilly were moving as one,
