Description

This was during a time before the Internet where keeping a paperback diary was a commonplace.
Sabrina was caught between two very different cultures. Her parents were not orthodox Muslim but they were conservative, strict enough not to allow her to have any boyfriends or stay out too late.
Sabrina loved Bollywood movies and the melodic songs with the backdrop of colourful melodrama. However, she also loved the boldness of Madonna who was strong and didn''t play by the rules.
Sabrina''s poems came pouring out of her imagination of all the could-be scenarios and sinusoidal waves of emotion that comes with love.
Stuck in her shoe-box room, Sabrina created a whole universe of love and wrote it down in her diaries.

Sabrina Malik was born in Britain to Bangladeshi parents. As a child, Sabrina moved back and forth between Britain and Bangladesh. As the family settled in Cardiff, South Wales, during the early nineties, Sabrina as a teenager recorded all her hopes and dreams in diaries.
She wrote prolifically about love, the hopes and torments of love based upon crushes she had at school, allowing her imagination to take the possible relationship to various directions and scenarios.
Sabrina now lives and works in London; married to the love of her life.

There Is No Other Girl like Me
So I have to hold a gun to your head
To make you say something nice
After all the nice things I have said
This is my reward, my price
Thank you very much for your kindness
I hope you get what you deserve
I give you my all and no less
While you remind me that you are not in love
Just goes to show I picked the wrong man
He doesn ’ t care to think of a nice phrase
I do my best, I give and care as much as I can
In return not a loving word or a sweet praise
Checking out a forty-year-old
Right in front of me
How could you be so mean, so cold
Why can ’ t you love me
’ Don ’ t take it to heart’ are your words I believe
Well, I think I ’ ve heard enough
And then I get up and leave
You know it ’ s me that you really love
You just don ’ t know it yet
’Cause I am always there
But when I go, you ’ ll know I bet
There ’ s no other girl like me.
Love Unrequited
So you don ’ t miss me, you don ’ t care if you see me at all
How can this be? You don ’ t answer my calls
I am beginning to wonder what signs are these
So much pressure I am under, have a heart please
Know you are always planning to leave me behind
I wish you would just do it so I could make up my mind
You give me excuses but what it comes down to
You don ’ t love me, and you don ’ t want me around you
I must have mistaken that we were strong from the start
But I was awakened when you told me ’ not to take it to heart ’
Well, thank you so much for the ride of a lifetime and more
I hope you find what you are looking for
’Cause it ’ s certainly not me that ’ s plain to see
But still you will always be special to me.

You may think I don ’ t care, ’cause I speak harsh words
But it ’ s such a big dare to let down my guards
Yet even though I let you down once, I ran away before
I came back for a second chance, I came back for more
Don ’ t know what made you take a chance on me a second time
Guess for me it took that break to realise I do want you as mine
Since then every day that goes through the little ups and down
There ’ s a feeling that grows when you know you want that person around.

Let them say what they wanna say
I don ’ t care anyway
They can go on saying whatever they want to
And I will go on doing what I gotta do
They can call me names and say things
But at the end of the game, I will win
’Cause I am not playing it
They are playing on their own
They can kiss my feet
I have gotta heart of stone
When it comes to these matters
I don ’ t let me be touched
I don ’ t get hurt or flattered
By people who talk too much
I rely on no one else ’ s mercy
So they can forget it if they think they ’ ve got me down
I know what I see
I know I stand on what ground
I need no sweet words to comfort me
I know myself better, what I wanna be
I know who I am
I work as hard as I can
I can stand alone to face the world
I am not afraid of any boy or girl
So they are fooling themselves, not me
’Cause I don ’ t care about anybody

Anything you want me to do
I ’ ll do it happily for you
And anything you want me to try
I ’ ll do it, I ’ ll never deny
And any song you want me to sing
A happy song, a sad song, anything
I ’ ll sing it out to you
’Cause I am willing to do anything you want me to do

There ’ s a secret locked in my heart
That ’ s tearing me inside apart
I know that very secret
And I don ’ t know whether I should cherish it or regret
It ’ s so very confusing
It ’ s so very amusing
That all I do is just wonder about that secret
It ’ s standing in my heart like a threat

Let ’ s go and hit the jackpot
We have got to give our best shot
Act cool, show off hot
Got to give it the best we have got
Since I learned to trot
There was a star in my thought
That star was a whole great lot
That lot meant no light thing, not
And that ’ s why I want to hit the jackpot

Don ’ t you recognise me
If you really don ’ t, you don ’ t surprise me
Don ’ t you remember me
Years ago we met each other by the sea
You were on holiday
So was I
It was love for always
But then goodbye
You promised we ’ d keep in contact
But you weren ’ t so eager I found out as a matter of fact
As soon as you went away
Never heard again from you, break your say
But I still remember you
Kept in mind the memories of us two
Now after a long time
I guess you don ’ t remember anything of mine
But I remember as you were
All fresh and clear
Don ’ t you remember me
If you don ’ t, you don ’ t surprise me

Never thought I ’ d get a broken heart
A broken heart from you
Now that broke it into bits and parts
I ’ ve been a fool not to
You made a clown of me
Or truly, I have made a clown of myself
I don ’ t share the pain with anybody
I wouldn ’ t like to see sadness in anyone else.

If I can live up to it
I ’ ll put reigns on my heartbeat
So it won ’ t leap like a wild horse
I ’ ll keep it under control of course
If I can live up to it
I ’ ll win you, I won ’ t retreat
So it ’ ll be you who ’ ll be controlling your heart
Away into adventure we ’ ll start

If you want to say something
Just say it straight
It won ’ t be the world ’ s ending
Nothing is that great
So you don ’ t have to make that face
Give off that mood
This is no stage, real place
Dialogues do no good
I don ’ t make drama of my life
Say what you want to say, I ’ ll survive
So don ’ t waste my time
Say it out right
If things aren ’ t that fine
We will make it fall in line
I take things light
You should know me by now
How my mind works somehow
’Cause if I am able to read your mind
You should be a little familiar to my kind
Say it out, you don ’ t need me anymore
I know all about, I ’ ll get on for sure
Say it out, you don ’ t want to see me again
I know all about when it ’ s over and what happens then
You don ’ t have to be so polite
Whatever you want to say, say it outright
I don ’ t make drama out of my life
Say what you want to say, I ’ ll survive.

These sweet times I am having with you
They are blessed by heaven and I know it ’ s true
I never felt so sweet and good ever in life
I just hope this goodness will survive
Survive forever, never leave me and you
These times will never die in my memory, I know it ’ s true
It ’ ll live on as long as I live
And it ’ ll never be as sweet I believe
