CHAPTER 1
C ANDY WAS POPPING her young hips to the video her cousin sent her trying to teach her how to twerk.
Candy was twelve years old, but she could do all of the latest dances better than most, but this twerk stuff, she just couldn’t get down.
Rewinding the video, and trying again. Candy finally found a rhythm that suited her and she rewound the CD again and rocked out to it.
Her twelve-year-old hips were rolling and winding like she was twenty-one, but she was determined to get that twerk dance down because her cousin wanted them to dance at the upcoming block party that coming weekend.
Candy loved when she and her cousins had fun because she was the only child and she had the most fun when they were all together.
It was just Candy and her mother who everyone called Bird. Her father got killed when she was too small to remember, so all she had in boring Grand Rapids Michigan was her cousins and the few friends she did call friends. Her aunts all adored her because she was the youngest of the family. And she adored them because they spoiled her whenever she was around.
Candy felt like she had it down so she was setting up her phone to send a recording back to her cousin to show her work when her door opened up and her mama walked in. Anxious to do her thing, Candy said, “watch this mama” as she pushed the record on the phone and the city girl’s song boomed and Candy started doing her thing. Her mama watched her young daughter’s hips roll and bounce and do all kinds of moving she never imagined her body being able to do. But Bird knew her daughter was a good girl and just loved to dance.
She and Bird talked about everything, and Candy didn’t even like boys yet, but Bird knew that soon she would as she continued to watch Candy until she was finished.
Candy sent the video to her cousin and ran over and hugged Bird tight. They were close, and Candy showed her mama love every chance she got.
Bird said, “Baby, I’m glad you’re not into boys yet ’cause working them lil hips like that gone have them lil niggas crazy.” Candy laughed and said, “I don’t want none of them lil pee-pee smelling boys mama. Imma finish school and be somebody. Plus, lil boys always be musty.”
They both laughed at that. Bird knew her daughter had a lot to learn, but for now, she’d let her have her views because they were in the right direction, Bird thought. At twelve years old, Candy was very focused and smart for her age. With her five girl cousins, she was the closest to her cousin Worm who was older than her by about five years. All of her cousins were having sex and her oldest cousin, Jewel, was tied in with the gangstas of their city. Candy and Worm both looked up to Jewel because she was beautiful and carried herself really well.
Everybody was very overprotective of Candy because she wasn’t fast, and she didn’t like boys. All she wanted to do was dance, write in her diary, and go to school. The times she hung out with her cousins were the most fun she was having. She had never even thought about sex yet but Candy enjoyed hearing Worm talk about it.
Her cousin Pinky was right under Jewel. Pinky was the outlaw of the family. She’d stay gone for a few months, pop back up, and blend right in like she never left. Pinky was the one who would call in the middle of the night and have you drive five hours to go pick her up way in another state somewhere. Pinky was a light skin beauty, whereas Jewel was brown skin, the color of wet caramel. Pinky was the color of Lisa’s bonnet and had pretty long hair. She had a svelte figure and her feminity made most of the dudes chase her.
Jewel, on the other hand, was thick with that ghetto finesse that all the dope boys pictured on their arms with her standing on the back of her legs and her nice ass hanging to stop traffic. Jewel wore a lot of jewelry crowning her that name Jewel. But she had beautiful skin and stood a good 5’3” compared to Pinky’s 5’6” frame. Jewel wore her hair in whatever trending style was in at the time, but she was well-mannered and was dedicated to her boyfriend, Tyson, who ran the gangstas in Michigan.
Juanita, who was Pinky’s moma, couldn’t stay in the room with Pinky at times, but Big Gail, who was Worm’s and Jewel’s mom, loved her to death because Big Gail said she reminded her of Juanita when she was young like her.
Worm and Jewel were around the same color. Worm stood about 5’6 with a donkey ass that she loved showing off. She had no problems waving her ass everywhere, but she was a big deal with the boys because Worm made it hard for them to get at her. If you were fortunate enough to bag Worm, then you lucked up on something good other than men’s flirty ways, Worm was really good people.
Worm wore a lot of different hairstyles as well. She had a few piercings on her face that had Big Gail going crazy when she got them, but Big Gail knew, just like everyone else, you couldn’t tell Worm nothing because she was Worm. Bird and Gail were tight. Bird was the sister who had got all the looks and sexiness. Bird had ass, hips, and looks. She was the same color as Jewel but Bird had those slanted eyes and a smile that would melt the hearts of any man. Bird was timid for someone who was so well-rounded, but she loved her family and her daughter. Candy’s other cousin, Crystal, was in a wheelchair and talked a lot of shit to everyone except Candy. She and Candy were the closest in age, with Crystal being about three years older than her. Her other cousin, Shay, came around sometimes but her moma had got hooked up with this army dude so they be gone a lot but she and Candy were all right.
Big Mama was the kinda grandmama everybody loved. She was the glue to the family and since she had been sick lately, everyone stayed over there taking care of her and trying to get her back on her feet good because when Big Mama was sick, then you could really tell because she was like a mama to everybody in their neighborhood. Always had a nice word and some love to shine on everyone.



Worm was showing Candy how she was fucking her boyfriend, and Candy was rolling around in the bed laughing. Word said, “Girl, I was sucking his dick and I felt that nut coming so I got up and started walking toward the door. Girl, you should’ve seen him get off that bed and start begging me to finish with his dick in his hand looking like he was about to cry. I knew I had his ass then tho.”
Everybody laughed ’cause Worm could be a handful and she was always into something or letting something get into her.
Nessa, her best friend, was just as freaky. Nessa said, “So, Worm, what you do, did you get that nut up outta him or what?”
Worm said, “Damn bitch, let me tell this story without you trying to steal a bitch nut and shit.”
Candy was laughing so hard, she made Nessa and Worm start laughing.
Worm poured it on after seeing her lil cousin so tickled by her story, she poured on all the theatrics then.
Worm said, “Girl, I looked down and saw how hard that nigga dick was and thought, ‘damn I can’t let that hard dick get away,’ so I went to work on him and made him drop that nut off in thirty seconds flat.”
Nessa said, “Bitch, you know he just got down with the UM crew, right?”
“Yeah, he was telling me about it, and that’s why we started celebrating early. They run Madison, better known as ‘Mad Ass’ in Grand Rapids.”
Candy had heard about the UM Crew as well. They were a big topic because they had a lot of money and members who stretched as far as Blyt
