Synopsis

There are no fairytale love stories when you live in the hood...
Raised in the heart of the hoods of Brooklyn, 18-year-old LeTavia was the oldest of two children looked after by their grandmother after their mother ran out on them. Built with a strong sense of responsibility, it was this trait that pushed her to protect Deshaun Banks, aka Gunplay, the very first time she laid eyes on him.
Gunplay, a born hustler, ducked into a local food spot, hoping to dodge the police that were searching for him but what he found inside ended up being more than he expected. When LeTavia immediately assisted him by attempting to hide him from the cops, he not only avoided being placed in prison for the rest of his life but he found the one woman who he would learn is loyal to him from Day 1. Or is she really?
Five years later, Gunplay is released from prison and runs into the person whom he owes his freedom to. Now 23 years old, LeTavia is a full grown woman and just as desirable to him as she was the day they'd first met. Immediately, Gunplay sets his mind on making her his but Quisha, the chick who held him down for five years of lock up, isn't having that.
Cutta was the king of the Harlem streets before Gunplay was locked up and, after his release, he's even more powerful. When he hears that Gunplay has been released, he has one goal in mind and that's to end Gunplay's life for a betrayal he blamed Gunplay for years ago. But when fate brings him into contact with LeTavia, his plans take a turn that even he didn't expect and the result threatens to tear down everything that LeTavia and Gunplay have built.
Is real love always loyal love? When the rules of the streets are mired by the desires of the heart, the results can be treacherous and, oftentimes, deadly.
True Love

“True love is the greatest weapon…
to end the war caused by pain.”
Prologue

An ominous full moon was high in the dark sky, creating a ghastly shadow on the side of Gunplay’s face as he crept through the hood, his eyes focused ahead of him, alert and attentive as his fingers wrapped tightly around the pistol in his lap. There was a deadly silence in the night as he pressed lightly on the brakes of his all-black Chevy Camaro, bringing the car to a slow halt. He peered into the distance ahead of him into a hue of murky gray fog that almost seemed dreamlike as he looked, straining his eyes.
There, only about three blocks from where he sat on the corner near one of the many Brooklyn projects was the object of his search: LeTavia. He furrowed his brow as he absentmindedly ran a single finger along the line of his goatee as if heavy into concentration. He watched her intensely, wondering what reason she could have for being on this side of town so late into the night.
Appearing nervous, LeTavia shifted from foot-to-foot, her eyes occasionally glancing around at her surroundings as she held on tightly to a duffle bag so big that she had to handle it with both of her hands. Gunplay eyed it with suspicion as he wondered what was inside. Although he had an idea of what it could be, there was no way in the world that LeTavia could be that stupid, so he dismissed the thought quickly and continued to watch.
Suddenly, a car turned onto the block behind where Gunplay sat parked on the side of the road. Looking into his rearview mirror, he saw a dark blue and white Bentley pulling up behind him and he gritted his teeth in anger.
“Fuckin’ Cutta,” he said under his breath as he watched the car drive by him.
He looked through his tinted windows into the car and saw that he was correct in his assumption. There was Cutta, sitting behind the steering wheel, leaning back in the seat and driving with one hand as if he hadn’t a single care in the world.
When Gunplay saw the car cruise up to where LeTavia stood and begin to come to a stop, he grabbed tightly onto the gun in his lap and grabbed the handle of his door, ready to get out and start firing in Cutta’s direction before he had a chance to hurt her.
But something made him stop suddenly before launching his assault.
His eyes traveled to LeTavia’s direction and he saw that, not only did she not seem afraid about being approached by Gunplay’s #1 enemy, she appeared to have expected his presence. Under Gunplay’s confused glare, she smiled with ebullience and took several steps towards his car.
“What da fuck?!” Gunplay muttered when he saw Cutta shut off his car and get out as LeTavia walked over to where he stood.
Seething with anger, Gunplay narrowed his eyes into tiny slits, barely able to contain his wrath as he watched Cutta stroll over to where LeTavia stood waiting for him, and slid his arm around her waist, grabbing onto a handful of her plump, round ass. LeTavia responded with what appeared to be a flirtatious giggle before handing him the duffle bag. Pushing gently away from LeTavia, Cutta opened the duffle bag and pulled out about three bands of money and flipped through them. Satisfied with what he saw, he closed the bag and gave LeTavia a curt nod before whispering a few words in her ear.
Gunplay gritted his teeth and tried to calm himself down as a burning inferno of rage barged its way into his mind. LeTavia was his lady and Cutta was his enemy, the only nigga on God’s green Earth that he could truly say he hated with a passion. There was no reason for LeTavia to ever have any contact with Cutta. Period. But here she was, meeting up with him in the middle of the night and allowing him to squeeze on her ass. To add insult to injury, the past month or so, Gunplay’s personal cash stash had been coming up short, but he’d had too much going on to ask LeTavia about it. Now he was beginning to understand why.
“Fuckin’ bitch!” he raged as ice cold blood raced through his veins.
Running his hand over his face, Gunplay took several deep breaths, fighting the ebb and flow of mounting anger, and began pulling his long locs up into a rubber band, the way he always did when he was planning on getting his hands dirty. In his mind, LeTavia had committed a cardinal sin and he was about to bring final judgment upon her in the most vicious of ways.
It's death before dishonor, fuck ass bitch!!
Just as he grabbed at the door handle to jump out of his whip, his phone began to chime. He looked at the name displayed on the screen and then back at LeTavia and Cutta. They were still standing, talking quietly to each other as Cutta lay with his back against the side of his vehicle. LeTavia was standing in front of him, twirling a lock of her hair between her fingers, making goo-goo eyes, while listening intently to what he was saying and responding occasionally with a nod of her head.
“Enjoy the chat. Those will be your last words, bitch,” Gunplay muttered as he answered the phone. “Aye, Trigga, let me call you back. Tavi—” He struggled to keep his composure. “I’m fuckin’ watchin’ dis bitch over here smilin’ in this nigga’s face! I’m about to kill everything moving in this bitch!”
“What?!” Trigga shouted through the phone. “Gunplay…nigga, calm da fuck down! You and Tavi always fightin’ and shit. That’s what y’all do. I keep tellin’ you that your fuckin’ temper is gonna get you in some shit one day if you don’t—”
“Trigga, it ain’t like that this time. I’m in Harlem watchin’ Tavi cheesin’ and shit at Cutta while he’s grabbing her ass. She been fuckin’ around with that fuck nigga!” Gunplay said with his jaw clenched so tightly his teeth made a grinding sound as he got more and more furious while he spied from a distance. LeTavia had strolled up close, coquettish to Cutta and was making figure eights on his chest with her fingernail.
“I’ma kill this punk bitch, I swear on err’thang I love, and I’ma spatter dat fuck nigga’s brains right there next to hers. Closed caskets,” Gunplay grumbled. Just then, he watched two men walk out of the building behind where LeTavia stood. They said something to Cutta, and then walked back inside. Gunplay eyed the building they’d come out of with c
