Description

This book aims to shed light on several subjects from the author’s perspective, through personal connections with others, and observations of her surroundings.
The poetry is one part, and the visual illustrations add another layer, in the hope that the reader may somehow understand and connect with the pain, happiness and appreciation experienced through this body of work.
Through all experiences in life, both positive and negative. No matter how dark or how light, there is always room for growth, understanding and change of any person.
There is always a silver lining in every cloud, as long as one is willing to look for it and learn.
“Poetry is the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings:
It takes its origin from emotion recollected in tranquility”
William Wordsworth

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
Through the process of writing my book, I have had the support of friends, family and other significant people.
I would like to mention and thank the following people for their contributions, without whom, it would have been more challenging to have my book published.
To my husband, Paul and my son, Fabian. I want to say thank you for believing in me and always encouraging me to keep my creative energy levels up throughout my book writing and painting process. I Love you both always.
To Kylie O’ Reilly, I want to thank you for giving me kind permission to use your lovely art work for my poem Starfish.
It was just what I was looking for, because I couldn’t quite come up with an idea myself. I wish we could all keep a Starfish in a glass and laze around on that sunset beach. Just beautiful, and keep up your great work, dear friend!!
To Jenny Elliot, I want to thank you for giving me kind permission to use your lovely art work for my poem, “Love in the mist.” I had no idea that a flower existed with the same name as the title of the poem. Beautifully drawn and simply exquisite! Please keep up your great work, dear friend.
To Mr. Al Farrow, I want to thank you for giving me kind permission to use your amazing sculpture of Egon Shiele, one of my favourite artists for my reference to paint “Resentment.” I am truly indebted to you and your creative genius. Please visit Al Farrow/EgonSchiele.
To Tia and Jade Weaver. I want to thank you for your artistic contribution to the abstract acrylic painting that we all named “Eruption” back in 2017 and became the illustration for my poem Bipolar . I had so much fun creating this piece with you two gifted girls.
Thank you for your continued friendship, support, creativity and love over the last thirteen years. Here’s to forever!
Finally, I want to thank everyone in between and in passing who has supported me in this journey, including my publisher, Balboa Press. I would like to thank Yuki Kenzo and Via Nielsen for all their support, assistance and advice on my journey to becoming an author. Your kindness, patience and professionalism has been very much appreciated, especially through all the frustrations and when my creative energy levels were not at their optimum.

INTRODUCTION
“I want to let it out!” Who of us have stated this or thought of this at some time in our lives? Whether it has been because of some built up frustration, or simply because we want to express happiness and appreciation. I’m sure this statement has come up.
For those of us who love reading and writing, poetry provides various forms of expression to get out our feelings and thoughts on a subject.
Reading it almost certainly encourages us to connect and find meaning in our experiences.
Even the ones that don’t sit comfortably with us, or we don’t want to talk about, because societal norms appear to favor emotional avoidance. i.e., sweep everything under the carpet. However, when one reads and connects with a poem that resonates with them, they can be reminded in that they are not alone.
Poetry may have a positive or negative impact on the social and emotional learning of people from all walks of life. In either situation, poetry provides the platform for readers to make sense of the world, to think, reflect, provide comfort and boost our mood.

There is always a silver lining in every cloud, as long as one is willing to look for it and learn.

PART 1
THE NEMOPHILIST
I much prefer the company of trees.
Their presence fills me with a comforting ease.
My fondness of the forests,
I’m a guest of the woods.
The trees always beckon,
and I’m suddenly there.... where time stands still.
Their willowy arms stretch out to invite.
So peaceful and green, a beautiful sight.
With the leaves of the maple, and the leaves of the oak.
Enveloping me, like a mysterious cloak.
Amongst them I walk,
and I tarry to talk to the artist
who made them from times long ago.
They stand still as they listen.
Bough’s bend with a whisper.
I love how the trees always welcome me.
I linger a while, feeling safe and secure.
Then drift off in deep sleep, a seductive allure.
Dive into my dreams, full colors abound.
Celestial music, a glorious sound.
Then gentle cool breezes kiss to waken me.
I look up to the sun, as the leaves dapple me.
Arms stretched, as I yawn.
Then I look all around.
In the forest of trees,
My true company is found.

SLEEP BUT A WHILE
Death, a certain lonesome call.
No one can join you on that road.
Deep and plunging to journey there,
as breath goes out, light is the load.
Less the weight of worldly things,
Let them go, earth’s chattels reign.
Floats away and disappears.
Drift asleep, removed from pain.
Body draped in silken gown,
attired like queens from long ago.
Gently cushioned on a bed.
Wildflowers strewn from head to toe.
Dense the veil as shadows fall.
Still the night of eternal sleep.
Resting in a casket closed.
The living mourn and wail and weep.
Heart beats stop for those in death.
Like clocks without a tick or tock.
Sun light hidden as darkness blocks,
the way to overcome life’s knocks.
Rest in peace my friend, so fair.
Lay forever, no more cares.
Mankind trudges on each day.
Repose now lady, stay that way.
Until one day you will wake from sleep.
As death is all it seems to be.
Harken to a Kingly voice.
As he calls, a new world you will see.
