I want to dedicate this book to
my husband Doug who was my soul mate
since we were 17 years old. He passed suddenly
on Feb. 19, 2021. I would also like to dedicate this
book to the Moller family.
She Lies There
She lies there
her hair
splayed out in all directions
like it’s own dark universe
 
To set sail on her body
is to circle the whole world
 
Don’t think you can do it
in one day or night of
navigating sheets
 
Remember, you are
without a compass
so many islands,
gulfs, peninsulas, deltas.....
 
Breakwater against punishing waves
 
There are enough secrets
in all the ports to fill many moons,
and your brain is now lost in dense fog.
Better lower your anchor now
while you still can,
or be lost in the spindrift.........

Twoisone (Two Is One)
Tonite, as you return
to our seaside cottage
see how the rosewood horse statue gleams.
I have touched everything
and made the dust retreat.
The white hibiscus
hover
breathless against the window,
their red stamens
straight up like
candlewicks.
Evening is sweetened
by the burning of Eucalyptus wood.
I set out a Japanese bowl
with salted nuts.
I weep and sweep.
I sweep the floor
one, two, three times.
 
How nervous your absence
has made us....... me, the dog, the cat......
As if by marriage
we were glass-blown
into a single figurine.........
