Description

In Just Write the Book of Poems and I’ll Find You, you’ll find a collection of poems to support the transformation from exhausted caretaker to empowered Lightworker.

What if you felt free to flow with your life’s purpose? Maybe you would like to write a book, facilitate groups, or start a podcast to share your voice, but putting yourself out there feels too overwhelming, or fatigue and frustrating physical symptoms get in the way. Alternatively, maybe you want to make a difference while expressing your gifts, and engaging in experiences that light you up, but worry that you could not support yourself.

If you have been wondering if it’s possible to realize your dreams, you are not alone. For empaths—those who feel others’ emotions as if they are their own—it is not easy to turn away from the needs and expectations of others. Many have learned to people-please, soothe, fix, perform, and problem-solve to minimize the chances of feeling the discomfort of others’ pain within their own body; however, it has often come at the expense of asking themselves what they desired.

Your community needs your empathic gifts, but what if they could be applied in an empowered way—where you can be of service while feeling free?

This collection of poems is for you if you feel lost in the needs of others, and want to breathe more fully. You’re invited to join an empath’s healing journey and explore the connection with your Whole-Self: mind, body, spirit, heart. Kelly C. Mullen’s poems, and the questions that follow, call you into spaces where you can relax and tune into your inner wisdom, so you can flow with your life’s purpose, and experience a life of connection, fulfillment, and joy.

About The Author
Foreword...ing
Dear Reader,
I have a feeling the following applies to you as well.
Love, Kelly

Dear Kelly,
I love all that you have done and been so far.
You are so loved.
You are an old soul, so others may find it challenging to understand you.
That’s OK.
You are here to help heal the world by healing yourself and being an inspiration—just by the energy you give off and the coincidences that occur to make your life easy and joyful.
What you know is uncomfortable, and scary to some.
That’s OK.
You are inwardly focused, and will benefit them in an indirect way.
—Love, Your Higher Self, Connected to The Universe
Introduction
This book began as a non-fiction perspective on the importance of space: creating the safe spaces ( externally and internally ) needed to see a truer list of choices available; holding space ( for ourselves and each other ) to feel what wants to be felt, so that we can connect to our inner wisdom ( for what we need, and desire ); and then clearing that which is no longer serving us by filling that space with more of our light ( so we can experience connection, fulfillment, and joy ).
That all changed when I didn’t feel like writing it.
Don’t get me wrong. I felt drawn to write, and believed I had a story to tell, but I thought I had to do it in a way that involved sourcing various individuals, especially those with credentials that our culture would hold in high regard. I also thought I had to do it in a way that would require explaining myself—my direct experiences, my intuition, my inner knowing—so that I would be perceived as credible, and could then be listened to, and understood.
It all felt overwhelming, and exhausting, so I put the book on hold.
A year later, in early 2013, I took the leap from 20+ years in corporate training and development ( along with the “secure paycheck” with “great benefits” ) to follow my heart, and pursue a career as a life coach. I felt more clarity about my purpose and optimistic about the future, until it came time to create a website and write my “About Me” page (Just who was I an yway?).
Although my participation in the coaching program had lifted layers of conditioning, I still didn’t know what to write, so I reached out for support. I engaged a nature-based coach, with Native American ancestry, to help me reveal, what he called, my Original Medicine—a Native American concept that not only refers to our talents and strengths, but captures the unique way in which we express those gifts, and share them with others in the community.
I felt some resistance opening up to the process, but when he said that it’s critical to the survival of the entire community that each member knows their Original Medicine, I felt a renewed sense of purpose and dove into the exercises. I shared my notes, and what my coach said next brought tears to my eyes: “It looks like you create and hold a space for authentic emotions to be expressed.”
I knew the tears revealed a truth, and yet I still felt some resistance. “Well, I’m not putting that on my website. I mean, who wants to feel their emotions?”
“With such a big Medicine comes a big shadow,” he replied. “What is the shadow side of this Medicine?”
He had me there. For most of my life, I lived in the shadow of not creating and holding the space for authentic emotions to be expressed. I learned to problem-solve, fix, plan, please, explain, perform, help, and soothe, so that I would not need to feel the dense emotional energy of others, or even the uncomfortable emotions that lay dormant within my own brain and body.
Rather than feel these emotions, and connect to the guidance they offered, it seemed safer to remain hidden in the shadow. The culture I grew up in, for the most part, was not up to the task of creating and holding the space for me to feel what needed to be felt in order to release the conditioning of the past—which made the journey of getting to know myself, and expressing my true nature, more challenging.
Since that revealing conversation, I’ve heeded the call to experience a number of healing modalities to connect with my heart, so I could live, and create, in the present moment more freely. In fact, my life coaching practice soon evolved to include yoga, intuitive coaching, mind-body/somatic coaching, TRE® (Tension, Stress & Trauma Release Exercise), Reiki, and shamanism—the oldest spiritual practice, with roots across the earth’s continents, that honors the spiritual aspect of healing.
What did all of these modalities have in common? These modalities, and the individuals who facilitated them, all helped me to feel safe in my body, so that I could tune into my inner wisdom, ask what I needed and wanted, and then make the empowered decisions that would lead to experiencing more connection, fulfillment, and joy.
I also started writing. I began capturing these healing experiences on paper, and often found myself losing track of time as the words turned into poetry. It tu
