Description

Rainbow consists of sixty songs and poems, which, like the title of this collection, are sixty rainbows that decorate Canada’s blue sky beautifully. They are symbols of sunshine, beauty, love, hope, happiness, pride and glory. They are odes to Canada’s heroes and heroines: soldiers, peace-keepers, pilots, police, scientists, angels in white—doctors and nurses, especially the ones working amid the pandemic periods, and the angels in charity. They show the world that people feel greatly proud of living in Canada, a great country full of sunshine, beauty, love, hope, happiness, pride and glory, one of the best places for people to live in the world.

Foreword

I sincerely applaud the publication of Professor Liu, Bolin’s second collection of songs and poems, Rainbow: Pride and Glory of Canada , which he composed over the past few decades and recently. Three years ago, Profession Liu sent me his first collection Spring of Love : Beauties of Canada . I was so impressed by the beauty embedded in the poems collected in that book that, ever since then, I have been looking forward to the pleasure of reading more wonderful works by Professor Liu.
Professor Liu, Bolin is an established scholar and poet. The publication of his collections of his songs and poems is a good reminder of his marvelous gift as a poet and writer. With this gift he reveals the aesthetics of love, the love not only between men and women, but also of the nation and the country where he has been living in the past decades. I have nothing but admiration and respect for Professor Liu, who presents love as an embodiment of beauty, wisdom, peace and hope using his words in a way that is inspiring and enjoyable to read, even though English is not his first language. Professor Liu’s achievement as a poet is grounded in his wide range of experiences in both Canada and China, which enables him to look on life from a unique perspective. His success is also rooted in his passion of literature, which was developed as he grew up in Qufu, China, the hometown of Confucius – a great thinker, philosopher and educator in ancient China. The passion was demonstrated when Professor Liu was working in Jining Teachers’ College ( now named Jining University ) , China, where I had the privilege of collaborating with him and being inspired by his work.
Thanks you, Professor Liu, for sharing with us the gift that you have worked so hard to refine. I trust your book will soon be an inspiration for both readers and writers. The success of this book will keep you going well beyond a third collection, to which I am looking forward.
Sun, Youyi, PhD

The Poet’s Note

The collection Rainbow collects sixty songs and poems that are written on what I saw and what I heard from the people and friends around in the past years and recently. These sixty songs and poems, like the title of the collection Rainbow , are sixty rainbows that decorate Canada’s blue sky beautifully. They are symbols of sunshine, beauty, love, hope, happiness, pride and glory. They are odes to Canada’s heroes and heroines: soldiers, peacekeepers, pilots, police, scientists, angels in white—doctors and nurses, especially the ones working amid the pandemic periods and angels in charity. They show the world that people feel greatly proud of living in Canada, a great country full of sunshine, beauty, love, hope, happiness, pride and glory, one of the best places for people to live in the world.

Acknowledgement

Here I express my whole - hearted thanks to LaFlorya Gauthier, a well - known novelist and biographer, who taught me privately how to write romantic short stories and novels and gave me great encouragement to finish this collection and also gave me great help and advice in compiling this book.
Here my heart - felt thanks should be given to my wife, Ailan Zhang, who tried her best to provide me the best creative environment, and who is the source of my inspiration and also my power of creation
Here I also give my sincere thanks to Mr. Sun, Youyi, PhD, who wrote the Foreword for this collection though he’s working busily in the Ministry of Education, Manitoba Province, Canada. I also thank my enthusiastic readers, book critics and book market analysts, who wrote or emailed me letters, saying my first collection Spring of Love: Beauties of Canada is interesting, meaningful, picturesque, attractive, patriotic and inspiring, and in some meaningful way, is influencing someone’s life for good. It is just their words that are encouraging me to finish composing my third collection.
Bolin, Liu

The Bonfire in the Mountains

The moon hangs high
With stars twinkling in the sky
We, boys and girls, are singing and dancing around a bonfire
The bonfire in the mountains flames high and bright
It lights the river, the valleys and the sky
We sing and dance until late at night
We lie on the grass looking at the sky because we are tired
And wonder why the stars twinkle in the wonderful sky
Which are you and which am I?

Stars are twinkling in the sky
They look like your charming eyes
You lie in my arms beside the bonfire
And tell me you want to be my future bride
That is my long time desire
I feel your heart as hot as the bonfire
Burning in your heart is love’s desire
A new life and hope are born in the lust fire
A wonderful night will be remembered forever with the bonfire

The Boatyard

One summer night I met a spark
He brought me on a boat parking in a boatyard
Sitting there looking over at the sky that was dark
He encouraged me to start
Counting silently the stars twinkling in the sky very far
On the boat a strong light was suddenly cast
That rushed into the boatyard it was a car
Being scared, I hid myself into his arms
I felt his heart and mine beat very fast
Soon the car drove away from the boatyard
But I found I had lost my soul and heart
The world surrounding me was very dark
The spark has become my glory and sunshine cast forever in my heart
Since then every year we have been to the boatyard
He has become my sweet heart
And for me he has nicely bought the boat and the boatyard
Time goes very fast
Today he can hear the happy blasts
Of the laughing and crying of his kids in the boatyard

I Miss You Day and Night

Since you first came into my sight
You often sat and talked with me, by my side
Your hands held me tight
Your beautiful words gave me great delight
Your sweet kiss made me so electrified
That I never expected one day away you did silently slide
And now I don’t know where yourself you hide
