Description

The fifth installment in the continuing series of Warrior Poet Wisdom.

Gone are the days of swords and shields, knights and paladins. But warriors still walk among us. Their strength and grace is as effective in dealing with today's challenges as it was in olden times. Their intensity and resolve can be applied to every task in our day to day lives, from work to working out. Their patience and focus are essential to living a stress-free life. Their courage and fortitude allow us to seek success and happiness, not simply wait for it as so many others do. Their selflessness and love reveals to us the greatest purpose in life: service to others. Their balance and peace ensures that nothing will ever shake any of our other virtues. All of these elements combine to form the greatest inspirational tool of all: wisdom.

Peace + strength + grace + intensity + resolve + patience + fortitude + selflessness + focus + balance + courage + love = wisdom

FOREWORD
Resolve. It’s a word that everybody knows, but not many dwell on. Maybe that’s why so many things are talked about but rarely followed through with. Resolve is defined as coming to a definite or earnest decision about something. Many people mistakenly think that you can come to that decision while sitting on your butt and thinking about grand plans. That’s not deciding. True decision making is past‐tense. It’s an idea that has had the effort put into it, through resolve, and then come to be as a result of unyielding effort. Think about the ideas that you’ve had that you’ve actually followed through with. Maybe it has to do with a job, or a hobby, or your health. Each time you followed through on that idea, you can now say truthfully that that youdecidedpursue it. But for all of the to times that a great idea popped into your mind and you didn’t follow through, you didn’tdecide anything. Decision requires resolve. It requires a “no retreat, no surrender” attitude that was employed by our ancient warrior brothers, the Spartans. This is why New Year’s resolutions can’t be made, only looked back on. A large part of my writing has to do withshedding light on the definition of certain words, and how they’ve been corrupted from misuse. The word “resolution” is a victim of this corruption. It’s up to you to help rehabilitate the word’s definition. Don’t make resolutions. Formulate an idea, do the work, employ resolve, and then look back and proudly proclaim, “I fulfilled that resolution.” It’s easy to say “Iresolve to do this” or “Iresolvedo that.” That’s why a vast to majority of the world’s population does it every year when the clock st strikes midnight on January 1 . But ask yourself this; In four or five or six months time, how many of those people will be able to look back and say, “I decided. I resolved.” Because if you didn’t do it, then you didn’t decide or resolve anything. All you decided and resolved was to further corrupt the word. Resolve to be better than that.
Resolve,
INTRO
Warrior Resolutions
I resolve to do this year What I have done today And that’s to put into motion All of the things I say
I resolve to stop making A list of things to do I resolve to recognize I must put ground to shoe
I resolve to stop wishing And picturing my goals I resolve to recognize It isIthat controls
Not a list of resolutions That will be ignored Every time I’m feeling lazy Lethargic or bored
I resolve to not rise to My expectation’s level Instead my degree of training Is in which I will revel
I resolve to not care if it’s New Year’s Day or not A calendar does not control Potential I have got
I resolve to shut up now And go forth and kick ass And not waste any more time talking Of what I’ll amass
