Description

I decided on the title ‘windows” because each poem came to me in a quick burst of energy. The way fresh air hits you when you open a window. Each poem is a window into my soul. You get to feel the emotion as I was experiencing it. I hope you can relate to them in some way. Most of them were about people or situations in my life. Some are just ideas from my imagination. I am not a college educated, literary scholar. I’m just a blue collar guy with an over active imagination. When I get an idea, if it is meant to happen, it just flows out of me.
Generally, each poem takes 30 to 60 minutes to compose. Many of them are imperfect.
For the most part, I have left them in their original form. The spiritual section portrays the highs and lows of my spiritual journey. The romance section is either the expression of my feelings for someone I cared for, or the idea of what I desire for myself.
The miscellaneous section is just that. It is a collection of ideas that don’t fit one of the two primary categories.
I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I have enjoyed writing them.

Chapter 1 Spiritual
The Sermon
I set out on a journey
There’s a mountain I must climb
A man sits on the top of it
Turning water into wine

Some people call him Jesus
That He’s the Son of God
Each day a different lesson
Some are easy, some are hard

He talks about forgiveness
Love others as yourself
The path to finding happiness
Is not through fame and wealth

The people came from miles around
What He said made so much sense
He crafted all His stories
With grace and elegance

He made us laugh, He made us cry
How to pray-when things get tough
But most of all, He filled us with
The gift of Gods true love

He said to go and share it
As you travel distant lands
And bring me with you, to your home
Son of God? Or just a man?

Remember what I taught you
In your heart, I’ll always be
Don’t be ashamed, to speak my name
You can teach the world to see

Something’s missing, lost my way
I pray, but I don’t hear
What’s the answer? I don’t know
The days have turned to years

God is angry - gives me pain
His payback for my sins
Took a gamble, placed my bet
But He never lets me win

Not sure why I talk to Him?
It’s clear He’s not my friend
Sitting, thinking, not a clue
How this nightmare life will end

Filled with fear, can’t do the deed
Block it out with lots of weed
People like to give advice
Beg me not, to take my life

Don’t want to die, but hate the pain
Depression rots my soul
Searching for a friend to share
My empty pot of gold

The one that Zeus had cut from me
Only she can heal my wound
Without her I’m a withered rose
I have no will to bloom

Temptation of the body
Is hard to overcome
To deny my human instinct
And deprive myself of fun

But that’s what I’m supposed to do
Because I made a deal with God
To live my life less selfishly
And not leave a woman scarred

When Shakespeare said “To thine own self”
“I really must be true”
He knew that God was watching
All the things I say and do

What I get from the bargain
Is a conscience free, and clear
Standing tall, my new found faith
Has driven out my fear

A feeling of contentment
Just to know I’ll be Ok
No matter what - life has in store
I can make it through this day

So come get on the bus with me
There’s a seat for every butt
You may not get the things you want
But what you have, will be enough

Standing at the crossroad
The four ways I can go
Each path is an adventure
Designed to help me grow

One road leads to Gods house
One road lead to hell
One road’s going nowhere
The fourth goes down the well

I pray for inspiration
To help me make my choice
They say the magic road sign
Is called my inner voice

My mind is full of clutter
The signal getting weak
Reaching out I’m searching
A nightmare without sleep

Some say God can part the sea
That He heals the sick and blind
He even walks on water
And then turns it into wine

At least that’s what the Bible says
But I’m not sure I believe
The only thing I know for sure
Is what He wants from me

He wants me to be happy
He wants me to be kind
He wants me to help others
What I have to give is time

When a friend might need a shoulder
Or a stranger needs a gift
I carry jumper cables
Or I’ll offer them a lift

The lesson that I struggle with
To forgive no matter what
When someone really hurts me
And I’d rather see them shot

I try to say a prayer for them
That’s what I’m supposed to do
I struggle with my humanness
I feel guilty, but it’s true

Forgiveness is a struggle
Old habits die real hard
It feels good - to get even
And it helps to heal the scars

I need to have a psychic change
I’ll give anything to learn
The answer to this riddle
Don’t want my soul to burn

But praying isn’t working
And I’m not sure what to do
A waste of time to talk to Him
If He won’t give me a clue

The gift of desperation
Is not a gift at all
The place you stand before you leap
No longer fear the fall

Then in a blink, He reaches out
Protecting me from harm
No other love could feel this right
When He wrapped me in His arms

Some say, He’s the Son of God
But they can’t prove it’s true
Like Thomas, I still have my doubts
Was He man like me and you?

I know that He had wisdom
He taught His friends to see
The love of God inside of us
Was planted like a seed

It’s up to us to help it grow
By spending time in prayer
To lead an altruistic life
And show others that we care

A life that’s filled with purpose
Will bring a sense of joy
To give a man, a helping hand
Outweighs some fancy toy

Accept the challenge, swear the oath
And take the leap of faith
The road is bumpy, hold on tight
There’s no more time to waste

How to tell the true from false
Without some perfect proof
Most people trust their instinct
Their perception of the truth

Most times they don’t consider
A person’s point of view
They see in one dimension
What they want to think is true

But often times it’s not that way
Without benefit of doubt
They judge a person harshly
Then try to block them out

No one likes to see them self
The way they played a part
Their life a Shakespeare tragedy
All logic, not much heart

It’s easy just to cast the blame
Make a twisted thought make sense
You justify it in your mind
To your victim, you pay rent

The outcome is depression
Nothing seems to go your way
Only when we’re standing - on the ledge
Do we make the choice to pray
Danger In Your Kiss
You tell me I should trust you
But I’m not a fan of words
When they contradict your actions
Make me doubt the things I heard

You tried to paint a picture
But there’s things that I can’t see
You tempt me with your body
But you lack integrity

An image in the shadows
Something lurking in the mist
And though my mind can’t focus
I feel danger in your kiss

I close my eyes, and pray for help
I just want to know the truth
I feel His warmth come over me
He removed the hangman’s noose

A flash of inspiration
Clouded vision starts to clear
As peace of mind came over me
And I knew His love was near

I heard Him say, just let it go
Just give it all to Me
The day you take, the leap of faith
You’ll find your destiny

You dropped me at the station
By the track of broken dreams
My tank on fumes, last ray of hope
You cut me from your team

I never saw it coming
My head was in the clou
