Chapter 1
As Hoot, the Owl watched, the upper rim of the summer Sun rose above the Meadow, and he knew it was time for his daytime sleep.

Hoot the Owl
Nothing of interest happened during his nighttime guard. Still, as he did most mornings, he

enjoyed watching the morning mist and the rising Sun in its spectacular red, blue, and violet colours before he tried to retire for a decent days sleep.

A gentle breeze develops and blows away the early morning mist while at the same time gently rocking the Oak Tree branch on which he sits.
Although tired, Hoot watched as the Meadow below awoke; he could hear Dorris Dormouse was awake earlier than usual; maybe she had some house cleaning to deal with when she returned from feeding her babies in the woods.

Or maybe she would decide to do something really important and go shopping instead!
This time, Dorris has been fortunate to deliver four healthy children!
Like him, Brushstroke, the Fox would be lying down to sleep after his mischievous nighttime. We call him Brushstroke because his tail appears like an enormous paintbrush!

Chapter 2
Brushstroke was frustrated with his night’s work as when visiting the Chickens coop and believing he would be well-fed, the Meadowman had installed a wire fence surrounding the Coop.

To make matters worse, Chickens lined up safely alongside the inside of the fence and laughed out loud, clucking Ha, ha, ha.

Boris the Beaver was already awake and busy reinforcing his Dam in Regents Brook, a regular task! The waterway ran alongside the Meadow and through the woods where Hoot was resting.

Boris’s Beavers Dam

Boris had created a great Dam that had successfully blocked the Brook, although it was also trapping the water in the adjacent tributaries and flooding the low lying Meadow.

Chapter 3
Hoot was proud of the Brooks name, as his parents told him it was called Regents Brook after his Great, Great, Great, Grandfather, Wilfred the Wise, who governed most of what happened in the local countryside and sat in the judgement of any disputes amongst his neighbours.

So, out of respect, when Wilfred died, all the animals agreed to name the waterway after him and called it Regents Brook!

Hoot had managed to doze off to sleep when the tree bough he was resting on shuddered as the breeze intensified and rattled the branches. Fortunately, he hung onto his branch while thinking it would be an uncomfortable days sleep; Little did Hoot know what the daytime would present.
Lucky old Brushstroke, Hoot thought. At least he would be

safe from the wind as he slept restfully in his Foxhole.
In the distance, a loud clang alerted Hoot.

Chapter 4
‘Hey everybody, be careful; the Meadowland Man is here to cut the grass’. Warned Hoot.

Each day the Meadowman visited the Meadow, hence his nickname, mostly this was to manage his Allotment, which he had built in the corner of the Meadow, between Regent’s Brook and Hoots woods.
Well, the produce is good this year! Although I can tell, those pesky Crows have been eating my crops again. Thought the Meadowman.

Still, I have plenty left, although I’m not sure if I’m going to waste my time next year labelling the different plants, as it’s so difficult to find the labels amongst all this vegetation.
I think I could better spend my time building a new shed as although it’s suitable for storing my allotment equipment, this one’s falling in a heap!
