Description

Can you Imagine waking up one morning jumping out of bed and “boom” you’re staring at this ridiculous orange Lamborghini Gallardo. You immediately flash back to that Lambo trinket on your key ring and it’s no longer there where you last left it. Could this possibly be “the” same orange Lamborghini you literally sat in yesterday at the car auction? On most mornings, Maverick would have been better than good waking to a Lamborghini Gallardo in his living room. However, Maverick wasn’t your typical 17-year-old kid. He knew that this supercar had followed him for a reason and for Maverick’s very first time in his life, his mission was clear. Well, he still had to get the little Lambo out of the house. My little Lambo invites & dares you to choose your favorite character and relive the adventures through your eyes and have a magical experience.

Chapter #1
I remember this day as if it were yesterday. It was one scorching hot summer day in July, and my dad took me to my first car auction.
My passion for cars has never been the same since. It became a part of who I am today, and it was the same for my dad. Trent Ambrose, (alias my dad) promised to tell me how this one day at the auction with his old man, changed his life. I wasn’t ready to handle that yet, apparently. My dad was a Car Broker by choice and passion. One of his many jobs required him to travel to car auctions all over the country on a weekly basis looking for the right car, truck, motorcycle, or even a boat for his clients.
Trent Ambrose was knowledgeable about any and all vehicles, including the ones with specialty options that he had to accost in order to satisfy his customer. He learned early on that staying two steps ahead of the curve kept him relevant and in business. My dad would tell me that he had to stay current, which meant he had to keep himself educated with all the new technology in order to be competitive in his business. He would use the “Ambrose network of contacts” countrywide, which helped him acquire such connections over the years. This meant that he would be able to track down the vehicle that would be the closest fit for each customer’s needs. It was always about satisfying the customer no matter how many obstacles he had to go through.
My old man had built up quite a successful business, whether it was locating the right vehicles for his customers or family and friends. He had such a passion, that it left everyone impressed. My dad loved cars plain and simple. He loved the old ones, the new ones, the big ones, and the small ones. Trent never got tired of searching for them and admiring them. This passion was passed over to me, Maverick Miles Ambrose.
Most people called me Mav or Miles while my folks, teachers and occasionally my principal would refer to me as “Mr. Maverick Miles Ambrose. Let’s just say it was because they were trying to get my attention or even slightly upset with me. It never got old seeing all the newest car models, new body styles, and all the cars he had not seen yet in person. The minute one of his dealer buds got a brand-new model in, Trent would stop what he was doing and show up as if he was a kid in a candy store.
Most days at the auction were enjoyable, and never felt like work for Trent. His clientele was constantly growing, mostly from word of mouth and a homemade website we put together. He did his absolute best to make sure all his customers had a good experience working with him, unlike most experiences with salesmen.
There was never a time that my father got tired of seeing up close and personal all of the new body-styles that came out yearly. Every other week depending on the auction site, dealers would bring their exotic cars to the auction. Those were crazy spectacular days you didn’t want to miss. Most of his local regulars were big 4X4 diesel truck guys, because of their work they did and because of the extreme winters they had in their small town of Stevensville Montana.
During that summer when business slowed down a bit, Trent thought to himself that he would like to take me to one of the local auctions for the day. He was hoping that I would get a kick out of seeing what he did for a living up close and personal. He explained to me that if I could find something in life that I really loved and could make a living doing it, I would never have to work another day in my life.
“Maverick, just think of it like this; look at all those Baseball, Football and Basketball professionals that are playing this game they’ve been playing since they were kids themselves. Most of these athletes have an undying love for the game and make a darn good living doing so. It doesn’t get much better than that when you’re blessed with finding something you genuinely love and you’re able to support your family doing so, right Maverick?”
“I guess so dad, I never thought of it like that before now. Dad, you do know I am just barely a teenager (17), and it is only 7:30 in the morning, shoot, it’s still dark outside and between you and I this might even be a dream.” I knew my dad was telling me something important, so I did my best to store it in my brain and hopefully be able to one day in the future share it with my kids, grandkids, and great grandkids.

Chapter #2
“Maverick, how would you like to come with me to work this Thursday? “Now, before you answer out of excitement; here are some of my ground rules. I need to leave here at 5:45 sharp on that morning, with or without you. It takes 1½ hours give or take to get to the auction prior to opening. That is when we have our best shot at finding and buying the best quality priced cars for our customers. It’s a 10-hour day of walking in the sun with no afternoon childcare and we won’t be back until dinner time.”
I did not realize all the work my dad would do to prepare for the auction; sometimes he would go up days before the auction to get his eyes and hands on the actual vehicles. I remember my dad saying to me over and over, “The prep work you do on your project, or any job will ultimately determine how well your result turns out, which will inevitably be something your proud of”.
It was the start of a new summer before graduating class, and since I had no previous commitments, I devoted my time to a small lawn mowing business I put together. I was not a big fan of summer camps or summer heat, so I spent most of my time cutting most of my neighbor’s lawns. “Who knows son, if it turns out you really like the car auction business and you play your cards right, you might be able to make enough money working for me to buy that riding 20 HP John Deer you’ve been talking about?”
“Hey son, I almost forgot one thing that might help you with your clearly difficult decision. This Thursday at the Manheim Auction, they will be having an exotic car day, and you might even see a Lambo or two”. I was not too fond of giving up on my beauty sleep, but I wasn’t going to pass up the opportunity to see one of the coolest cars on the planet in my lifetime. I decided to make “the ultimate sacrifice” to hang out with my old man. Who knows, maybe I could make enough coin working for my dad doing the car auction thing to buy that John Deer. This would make things much easier when it came to cutting more lawns and making more money. “Sure dad, I’d love to come with you.” “Just make sure you bring your walking shoes and a baseball cap to protect you from the sun with, said Trent; it’s going to be a long and sweaty hot day.”
