Look inside the book:

It would be pleasant, if it did not seem vain, to hope that New Castle will base its aspirations to enduring fame upon the circumstance that another humble personage came, two hundred years and more after Menuit's arrival, to live in it and to tell, in a homely but amiable fashion, the story of some of its good people, and to say something of a few of their peculiarities, perplexities and adventures.
...It has always seemed to me that village life is the happiest and the most comfortable, and that the busy city man who would establish his home where he can have repose without inconvenience and discomfort should place it amid the trees and flowers and by the grassy highway of some pretty hamlet, where the noise of the world's greater commerce never comes, and where isolation and companionship are both possible without an effort.

About Charles Heber Clark, the Author:

A subject of much contention was Clark's claim that Mark Twain plagiarized his 1880 novelette 'Fortunate Island' with 'A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court,' published in 1889. Twain actually wrote what he considered a rebuttal to the charge, only he compared 'Yankee' to Clark's story 'An Old Fogey' which also appeared in the same volume as 'Fortunate Island.'
