INTRODUCTION
Hello, well so here we are again. How’s it going to happen this time? You remember what became of our hero, in the last episode? Well, here we go for another crazy adventure. This time, our hero begins life in the clutches of a failing boxing career and in peril of losing everything to the crime lords of inner city London.
Our hero is awaiting a championship bout for the title of heavy middleweight in the London champion’s series. However, our man is poorly prepared. He is at risk of losing his long time love, and teenage girlfriend. In the process, he has handed back the keys to his flat in uptown London. He is in good health, however. His trainer thinks he can handle the title bout but; what he doesn’t know. And, what nobody but he is aware of is, that inside he is a dying man.
Can Michael make it back from peril and win the championship? He is a good fighter but; he needs the support and love of his lifelong partner Gael. Without her, he is but a shell of the man he wants to be.
The cruelest twist of fate is that, all this is happening to him at the very moment he is in debt to the London money lenders. He owes money for the lavish lifestyle he has been living and the expensive cocktail parties he has been attending. He needs to find 300 thousand pounds to pay off his debt. Winning the championship bout, would see him in the clear. However, Michael being a world class fighter means being out on the scene and, without the loving support of his fiancé Gael, he might not be able to produce the magic, on the night that counts. The odds are stacked against him. He must find a way to save his heart before it is too late for him.
This is the story of Michael the middle heavyweight boxer and his struggle against the odds to become champion and, to ultimately stay alive in London and it’s chaotic society. Here is what happened... .
CHAPTER 1
WHO IS MICHAEL GLASS?
Our flamboyant hero is an inner city ‘tough guy’, he’s a product of the streets. He’s as aggressive as he is charming. He’s about 6 foot tall, built of rippling muscles, he wears a short cropped beard that resembles a days worth of stubble and he’s black.
When Michael is up and about, everybody waves to him, as he passes by. He’s a popular guy but; everybody knows he’s a tough guy so they give him a wide berth to go his own way. What does it mean to be a tough guy in downtown London? It goes with the territory. Keep your head cool and don’t go out with somebody else’s girl. Not a problem for Michael, he’s got Gael.
Gael has been with Michael since high school. They’ve developed a loving relationship over the fifteen, or so years they’ve been together. To see them out as a couple means, you’ve got a lovers cupids arrow through two hearts. You couldn’t imagine them apart. They fit together perfectly and Michael knows how lucky he is.
Michael is on his way to the boxing hall. He’s about to start his first training session of the day. It usually consists of two, hard-ass sessions a day, with the only rest on Sunday.
Sunday, Michael goes to church. He’s got the Lord with him at training and when he goes to a boxing match. He doesn’t say much about his faith. However, everybody knows he trains for God. He wouldn’t have it any other way.
Someone catches sight of Michael and gives him a slight nod of the head. It’s enough for him to lift his head and notice. He decides to cross to the other side of the street, going right out of his way. The guy who has signaled him is not a tough guy. Nevertheless, Michael knows him and wants to make his acquaintance.
When the two meet, outside the tea room-come diner, on the side of the street, the stranger offers him his hand. Then he offers him his own hand in return and the two men shake hands. Michael knows this is a dodgy business. The man he knows is a dodgy character. He has connections with the London Mafia. He’s a front man for the illegal racketeering and gambling business. Michael has got himself involved with this shady character and he owes him money, lots of money.
Michael has been living a lavish lifestyle. He already drives a yellow Lamborghini and wears Versace suits to his cocktail parties which, of course he organises himself. He pays for the catering and his team of followers who, help him to get the biggest fat cats to come, on invitation of course. No wonder he’s getting into debt. Michael is living beyond his means and he’s getting himself into trouble with the money lenders. These guys play hard ball and even Michael knows they don’t accept excuses for bad behaviour.
He shakes the man’s hand.
‘How are you doing Steven?’ he asks politely.
‘Hiya there Michael. I’m doing fine, better than fine.’ Steven replies, shifting his weight backwards onto his heels.
‘The boss wants a word with you.’ He continues. ‘Nothing serious, just a friendly chat and a handshake. You know nothing out of the ordinary.’
‘I wasn’t aware I needed an invitation.’ Michael replies with his usual and aggressive tone.
‘That’s Ok. We’re being friendly because; you’re such a good client. You can count on his hospitality. You know we’re all friends.’ says Steven coyly, with a tight lipped smile.
Michael doesn’t like these guys and even less Steven. He doesn’t trust his calmness.
‘Is this guy trying to hide something from me?’ He thinks to himself.
‘I’ve got to be at the boxing hall. I’m already late for training. I was on my way there right now.’
Steven steps back and opens his arms. ‘Oh come on, don’t be shy. We just want a word with you.’ says Steven.
Michael wants to take a swing for him, right there in the public street. He feels the anger boiling up inside him.
‘How can this little faggot think I’m going to drop training for him?’ he thinks to himself. However, he’s a trained fighter. He knows when and when not to punch somebody in the face. And, now is definitely not the time or the place.
‘Very well then, I’ll follow you to your meeting. Don’t expect me to hold any doors for you, though.’ says Michael.
‘Excellent news. Come on then.’ he says as he turns to go.
The two men make their way down the street, side by side. Michael still has his gym bag slung over one shoulder.
CHAPTER 2
A MAGICAL MEETING
The story of how Michael met Gael is still a lovers fairy tail. They fell in love at school in their last years at college. It wasn’t a chance meeting of cupids arrow. Instead, what happened was an act of Michael’s. He saw Gael chatting with her friends at the school gate. He was with his own clique of adolescent men but, when he caught sight of her, he was head over heels in love. She was the Mona Lisa, she was his dream girl.
She twirled round when her friends laughed at something funny one of them had said. Her hair was golden blond and it flowed over her sho
