Description

She suddenly stood up and pointed the weapon towards the dining salon and galley, pulled the trigger and this time kept the gun pointed more towards the deck. When this clip was empty, she dropped down and inserted another full clip into the gun. As she watched the body moved ever so slightly and one of his eyes opened. She jumped up and ran to him. Blood was still coming from his shoulder wound so she grabbed a towel from a rack and pushed it hard against his shoulder. He winced when she did this, but he managed a smile.

Introduction by A. G. Harrison

Introduction

From the time human felt the necessity to communicate, he realized the value of the written word and wrote by drawing on cave walls, clay tablets, stones, papyrus, parchment, paper, and today, with the development of technology, he has created e-books.

The object "book" is classified in industrial products, but at the same time it is a cultural good. Personally, I emphasize both of its dimensions, but mainly in its cultural dimension. I consider the book to be the most important expression of culture because quite simply, in addition to being the same work of art, it supports all other expressions of culture.

As an industrial product, through the many stages of its creation and before it reaches the hands of the reader, it financially supports a wide range of professions, such as writers, philologists, translators, designers, publishers, paper merchants, printing houses, bookbinders, distributors and, finally, bookstores… Let us not forget, of course, that today it also greatly supports the huge online market industry.

The governments of many countries, studying and delving into the economic benefits of the book, have invested and supported this industry in various ways, which flourished and offered them great financial gains.

Starting with the Sumerians, Babylonians and other peoples of Mesopotamia, who wrote on clay tablets, Egyptians and Romans, who wrote on papyrus, the Jews on parchment, the evolution with handwritten books images in the Middle Ages in Europe, the creation of the first wooden typographic elements and paper by the Chinese, who printed the first books, the discovery of metallic elements by the German Johannes Gutenberg during the Renaissance and the really rapid development of printing in 1450 until 1456 and, finally, during the 19th-20th century the Industrial Revolution, which makes the production of the book flourish are some examples of the value of the written word.

The agony and effort of all these civilized societies, over time, in various parts of the world, teaches us that the book is an integral part of human existence.

Throughout this course the book records and transports from the depths of the centuries ancient civilizations, which teach us about the mistakes that we can avoid or imitate the achievements of our ancestors and adopt timeless principles and values, supplies for survival. but also the evolution of the human species.

By reading a book, we have the opportunity to create with our imagination the heroes of history, landscapes, various objects, etc. In the pages of a book, the author, in addition to his study, research, experiences, also expresses his feelings. He makes us members of his own world and gives us the opportunity to learn.

It helps us to acquire knowledge but also to enrich our vocabulary, improving our own writing.

It contributes to our mental alertness, increases the ability to focus, improves our memory, helps to develop our analytical mental abilities, entertains us, calms us down and helps reduce stress.

Of course, apart from the importance of touch and contact with a hot material, reading a quality book contributes significantly and decisively to our self-education, the cultivation of critical thinking, the upgrading of our aesthetics and consequently contributes to our quality of life.

It conveys art, informs, cultivates the spirit and the soul, elevates intelligence, finds solutions to problems, conveys messages, circulates ideas, forms consciences.

I hope my books convey a message of personal experiences and you could find segments of your own truth as well.

Thank you in advance for being here and being ready to start reading.
Chapter One

Previously

It was time to do some serious damage control and Garret was an expert at this. If his daughter showed up, he would embrace her and make over her so the press could see how happy he was about her returning home to him. He would not harm her now, especially with the press’s nose up his ass. Nope, it looked like he was going to have to accept the fact she had survived and was going to be his daughter for some time to come, but he was going to have to find some way to curb her desire to sleep with any man who looked sideways at her or gave her the time of day.

A knock on the door brought him out of his deliberations and into the here and now. Before he had a chance to say “come in” the door opened, and his campaign manager came barging in.

“How much truth is in those reports?” Billy demanded.

“Less than one percent why?”

“Because we’re taking a hit, a big one.”

“How big?” Garret asked leaning back in his chair. According to Billy, a loss of two points is cause for alarm. He was not prepared for what he told him.

“We lost eleven points. That leaves us with just a plus of twenty-seven percent and that’s not good. ”

Garret sat up and leaned over his desk. “How much of that went to Anderson?”

“He only picked up five points. He’s up to thirty-four and climbing more every day. Carlson got four points, but we’re still way out in front of his numbers. We’ve got to squelch this damn thing about you wasting the taxpayer’s money. You need to drop this bit with your dead daughter now and get things moving forward again. Two of those points went to undecided, but that’s not the idea, we need them going into the home stretch against the republicans.”

Garret explained his conversation with that damn Kansas City Star reporter last night. What was his name, oh yes Parish. When Billy left, he was armed with rebuttals for all the stories and ready to do battle with the press. Alone once more Garret pulled his keys out of his pocket and unlocked his secure desk drawer. The third paper down in this drawer was the one he was searching for. It was from the Department of the Navy and it expressed their concern about keeping the blocking force out there doing an exercise in the approaching storm, thus risking both life and material for very little gain. It was signed ‘Rear Admiral Thomas Parish’.

It couldn’t be one and the same. Still, why would a paper like the Star get interested in a story about the Navy unless there was some smoke there somewhere? He spun his chair around and signed onto his computer. Once he was up and running, he accessed the Navy’s mainframe. As VP, he could access personnel files and other stuff like that, but not their secret files, only the President and top Admirals could do that. They had one more level of security and that was so Top Secret that not even the President could access those files unless he was authorized by the FBI, the CIA Director or the top brass in the military .

Five minutes later he had the form printed out on his desk. Rear Admiral Thomas Parish was born in Springfield, Mo. and he had an older brother named Patty Parish. So that was how that meathead knew so much about this operation. That had to be the leak, it only made sense. If he could cause all this by flapping his jaw, then maybe Garret could use the same source to change things around. But this time he was going to have to be a little more devious and not leave any loose ends.

“Helen, get hold of Jasper at CIA for me, will you? Ask him to come see me ASAP.”

“Yes Sir. What should I say is the reason for this meeting?” Helen had played these games before and knew to touch all the bases too.

“Just ask him to come, I don’t think he’ll need a specific reason to come to the White House.”

The funeral for his brother was going to be harder on Uncle than he would ever admit, even to himself. After all his brother was younger than him by six years and he was in excellent physical condition. Most important of all, Uncle dearly loved his brother, though neither of them would have ever acknowledged that. Who would have thought a man like him would die of a cerebral hemorrhage, not Uncle anyway?

The medical center he had running those tests on his brother called first and then faxed the report to him. As soon as Uncle had positive proof in his hands that his brother had been murdered, he would damn sure make certain that the world knew this was not a natural death.
