The closer they came the slower she seemed to move as if she was catching her breath. The outlanders reached the stairs and were surprised when she spun around and exploded with a fury of blows, bringing down her sword with incredible power. Slowly the outlanders edged forward until finally they pushed her to the top of the stairs which gave all three more room to move then she unleashed a flurry of blows that beat the outlanders back. Now they found they were in trouble.

Introduction by A. G. Harrison

Introduction

From the time human felt the necessity to communicate, he realized the value of the written word and wrote by drawing on cave walls, clay tablets, stones, papyrus, parchment, paper, and today, with the development of technology, he has created e-books.

The object "book" is classified in industrial products, but at the same time it is a cultural good. Personally, I emphasize both of its dimensions, but mainly in its cultural dimension. I consider the book to be the most important expression of culture because quite simply, in addition to being the same work of art, it supports all other expressions of culture.

As an industrial product, through the many stages of its creation and before it reaches the hands of the reader, it financially supports a wide range of professions, such as writers, philologists, translators, designers, publishers, paper merchants, printing houses, bookbinders, distributors and, finally, bookstores… Let us not forget, of course, that today it also greatly supports the huge online market industry.

The governments of many countries, studying and delving into the economic benefits of the book, have invested and supported this industry in various ways, which flourished and offered them great financial gains.

Starting with the Sumerians, Babylonians and other peoples of Mesopotamia, who wrote on clay tablets, Egyptians and Romans, who wrote on papyrus, the Jews on parchment, the evolution with handwritten books images in the Middle Ages in Europe, the creation of the first wooden typographic elements and paper by the Chinese, who printed the first books, the discovery of metallic elements by the German Johannes Gutenberg during the Renaissance and the really rapid development of printing in 1450 until 1456 and, finally, during the 19th-20th century the Industrial Revolution, which makes the production of the book flourish are some examples of the value of the written word.

The agony and effort of all these civilized societies, over time, in various parts of the world, teaches us that the book is an integral part of human existence.

Throughout this course the book records and transports from the depths of the centuries ancient civilizations, which teach us about the mistakes that we can avoid or imitate the achievements of our ancestors and adopt timeless principles and values, supplies for survival. but also the evolution of the human species.

By reading a book, we have the opportunity to create with our imagination the heroes of history, landscapes, various objects, etc. In the pages of a book, the author, in addition to his study, research, experiences, also expresses his feelings. He makes us members of his own world and gives us the opportunity to learn.

It helps us to acquire knowledge but also to enrich our vocabulary, improving our own writing.

It contributes to our mental alertness, increases the ability to focus, improves our memory, helps to develop our analytical mental abilities, entertains us, calms us down and helps reduce stress.

Of course, apart from the importance of touch and contact with a hot material, reading a quality book contributes significantly and decisively to our self-education, the cultivation of critical thinking, the upgrading of our aesthetics and consequently contributes to our quality of life.

It conveys art, informs, cultivates the spirit and the soul, elevates intelligence, finds solutions to problems, conveys messages, circulates ideas, forms consciences.

I hope my books convey a message of personal experiences and you could find segments of your own truth as well.

Thank you in advance for being here and being ready to start reading.

Harry’s feet had just hit the ground as James moved to the rope and started climbing over the edge then he saw Cerridwen as she was about to leap off the rampart beside the tower. An arrow flew by that narrowly missed her head. She glared at the archer that stood next to the Duke, he was still pointing at her. ‘Fool you missed! Try again,’ screamed the Duke. Cerridwen had realized early on she wasn’t, as invincible as she once thought and that arrows or swords could prove fatal while she was in a mortal’s body.

Furious at the audacity of these mortals she glanced at the tower and threw all her might at its base a loud explosion followed with the concussion knocking Duke Osric and his guard to the ground. James was completely taken by surprise and almost fell off the wall only just regaining the rope in time.

The base of the tower was badly damaged with a huge gash carved into the stone, then terrible cracking sounds followed as pieces of stone began to fall from different places. Everyone stopped as if frozen to the ground while their eyes were fixed on the tower with one man screaming out. ‘It’s going to fall!’ As if it was a signal, the tower tilted towards the courtyard, slowly at first then with increasing speed. James moved into position then called out to Harry to take cover. He took one final glance and for a second his eyes met Cerridwen’s with her intense hatred cutting through the air like a knife. James knew he had no time to waste and slid down the rope, as his feet touched the ground he heard a thunderous crash, the tower was gone.

The next thing the outlanders knew they were laying at the base of the wall covered in dust and stone fragments. Fortunately for them the wall had protected them from the larger stones. James heard Harry cough and called out while trying to get the dust out of his eyes. ‘Can you see the others?’ James coughed again as he tried to spit dust out of his mouth.

‘You serious? I can’t even see you,’ yelled Harry.

‘Come on! Cerridwen spotted me’ yelled James with a note of fear in his voice. Harry cursed then made his way across the street followed closely by James. The women had gone and they didn’t bother to look, they just kept running down the alley for the warehouse.

The Baron was half way to the palace when he heard the crash and saw the dust cloud fill the street. He pulled his horse up then he heard a soldier say, ‘the tower. It’s fallen!’ With the initial shock passing he thought the Princess is dead and with luck the Duke. I will be king! ‘Forward we must save the Duke, to the Duke’ ordered Baron Ulf.

Oswy returned to the warehouse with Morkere and Wihtred, while Casein and the other dwarf stayed on the street to watch. The two soldiers sat at the table and were given ale while Cottia and Leaf brought food. Minutes later Edwina, Esa and Gilda came in with Edwina rushing to the two soldiers and hugged each. ‘Thank the gods, you’re safe,’ said the excited Princess then the three burst into tears as the relief from their imprisonment and impending execution finally struck them, as all three knew they only had a few days to live.

Finally Morkere asked, ‘where are those two scoundrels?’

Gilda replied, ‘they haven’t returned,’ and was about to leave when Casein appeared and blocked the doorway.
