Description

There was a long pause for a moment before he came out. He had his eyes closed and didn't open them until he felt something solid under his feet. Just as he opened his eyes an elf moved in to hit him with the hilt of his sword. Unsure on what they should do the guards paused to wait for the order to kill the revolting human, as his threat to one of their own in the palace, was intolerable.

Introduction by A. G. Harrison

Introduction

From the time human felt the necessity to communicate, he realized the value of the written word and wrote by drawing on cave walls, clay tablets, stones, papyrus, parchment, paper, and today, with the development of technology, he has created e-books.

The object "book" is classified in industrial products, but at the same time it is a cultural good. Personally, I emphasize both of its dimensions, but mainly in its cultural dimension. I consider the book to be the most important expression of culture because quite simply, in addition to being the same work of art, it supports all other expressions of culture.

As an industrial product, through the many stages of its creation and before it reaches the hands of the reader, it financially supports a wide range of professions, such as writers, philologists, translators, designers, publishers, paper merchants, printing houses, bookbinders, distributors and, finally, bookstores… Let us not forget, of course, that today it also greatly supports the huge online market industry.

The governments of many countries, studying and delving into the economic benefits of the book, have invested and supported this industry in various ways, which flourished and offered them great financial gains.

Starting with the Sumerians, Babylonians and other peoples of Mesopotamia, who wrote on clay tablets, Egyptians and Romans, who wrote on papyrus, the Jews on parchment, the evolution with handwritten books images in the Middle Ages in Europe, the creation of the first wooden typographic elements and paper by the Chinese, who printed the first books, the discovery of metallic elements by the German Johannes Gutenberg during the Renaissance and the really rapid development of printing in 1450 until 1456 and, finally, during the 19th-20th century the Industrial Revolution, which makes the production of the book flourish are some examples of the value of the written word.

The agony and effort of all these civilized societies, over time, in various parts of the world, teaches us that the book is an integral part of human existence.

Throughout this course the book records and transports from the depths of the centuries ancient civilizations, which teach us about the mistakes that we can avoid or imitate the achievements of our ancestors and adopt timeless principles and values, supplies for survival. but also the evolution of the human species.

By reading a book, we have the opportunity to create with our imagination the heroes of history, landscapes, various objects, etc. In the pages of a book, the author, in addition to his study, research, experiences, also expresses his feelings. He makes us members of his own world and gives us the opportunity to learn.

It helps us to acquire knowledge but also to enrich our vocabulary, improving our own writing.

It contributes to our mental alertness, increases the ability to focus, improves our memory, helps to develop our analytical mental abilities, entertains us, calms us down and helps reduce stress.

Of course, apart from the importance of touch and contact with a hot material, reading a quality book contributes significantly and decisively to our self-education, the cultivation of critical thinking, the upgrading of our aesthetics and consequently contributes to our quality of life.

It conveys art, informs, cultivates the spirit and the soul, elevates intelligence, finds solutions to problems, conveys messages, circulates ideas, forms consciences.

I hope my books convey a message of personal experiences and you could find segments of your own truth as well.

Thank you in advance for being here and being ready to start reading.

Gwendolyn stood watching, as the two dots in the sky grew larger until she recognized Modwenna with another woman that had large bat like wings descending then gently landing in front of her. Gwendolyn sheathed her sword and ran to Modwenna with open arms. ‘Stop, don’t touch me! I’m covered with demon slime.’ Gwendolyn was staggered at the thought then noticed the slime on their naked bodies.

‘Are you cursed?’

‘No, it was a necessary for our escape. This is Silvermoon she saved my life and is now a sister of the coven, as she is yours. Now tell me of our sister’s fate?’ The young witch slightly shook her head with Modwenna covering her face with her hands for several seconds, as she had been preparing herself for this terrible news. Silvermoon saw her distress and came to her but she waved her away.

After a few minutes the older witch composed herself the best she could then commanded ‘we need soap and clothing. Meet us at the hot springs. Hurry!’ The two witches swiftly rose into the air and disappeared over the trees tops while Gwendolyn stared at Modwenna’s departure thinking, she has changed. I can feel it .

The hot spring was only two miles away in the forest a place that Gwendolyn loved going to as she enjoyed soaking in the hot bubbling waters. When she arrived she found the two women in the water rubbing their bodies in a desperate attempt to remove the slime that steadfastly clung to their skin. Gwendolyn handed them each a bar of soap, which they quickly lathered and continued their attempts to remove the slime. Gwendolyn saw this was going to take a considerable amount of time and decided to disrobe and help. After two long hours they were satisfied they were free from this accursed substance. Silvermoon turned to Gwendolyn and gave her an unexpected hug followed by the traditional greeting. Gwendolyn warmly returned the gesture though she felt embarrassed about hugging another naked woman. She repeated the greeting with Modwenna then unexpectedly a great flow of relief flowed through her body with tears coming to her eyes as she realised she was no longer alone.

The three women lay in the sun to dry their bodies then dressed and returned to Gwendolyn’s cottage, where the young witch prepared a meal while the other two rested and watched from the table. Gwendolyn told them of what had happened to their sisters and how Gwydion defeated Afagddu and saved her life. Modwenna spoke of the Afagddu realm and the horrors she found. She came to tears when she spoke of the abducted women whose lives had been destroyed. Gwendolyn stopped and stared stunned from disbelief. How could the gods be so cruel or is it, they just don’t care. Is Morrigan deceiving me ? She thought.

After they finished their meal they sat back and drank herbal tea still recovering from their experiences of the last few days when Gwendolyn said. ‘There is more I need to tell you. Two goddesses arrived while you were away Morrigan and the one who cannot be named.’

A strange expression of fright, not surprise appeared on the women’s faces. ‘Was it an apparition?’ asked Modwenna with an air of desperation in her voice.

‘They were both here in person asking the same questions. Morrigan talked to our sisters in the Halls of the Dead and came to see what had happened, for she is forbidden to enquire too deeply from the dead. The other came because we did not pay her homage during the sabot! When I told her what happened she realised the enormity of her decision. She left to save you, Modwenna.’

‘So these two goddesses didn’t know?’ declared Silvermoon.

Gwendolyn replied. ‘No they were appalled! There is more, after the fight with Afagddu Gwydion told me the gods were not gods but powerful beings that portrayed themselves as gods.’ He gave me these,’ she held up her arm to show the amulet and the sword. ‘My powers have grown considerably’ the other two women had already noticed which answered the question they were about to ask.

‘If the gods are not gods then what are they?’ asked Modwenna.

‘Evil beings that must be destroyed,’ whispered Silvermoon.

Modwenna replied, ‘yes they must be made to account for the lives that have been destroyed.’

‘How can this be done we barely survived Afagddu and he is but one?’ asked Gwendolyn.

Modwenna replied, ‘you don’t! We do!’ Gwendolyn appeared puzzled so Modwenna continued, ‘you must wait for the outlanders while Silvermoon and I lead the demons to the Cradle of the Gods.’

Staggered by what she had just heard Gwendolyn jumped to her feet stammering. ‘What! This is madness you can’t control demons they will kill you and spread over the land like a disease. Thousands upon thousands will die at their hands!’ Modwenna shook her head. ‘The gods stripped them of their powers and imprisoned them in the caverns. Their hatred of the gods overrides all other considerations. When I offered to lead them to the Cradle of the Gods it united them.’

Gwendolyn shivered to release demons on the world is madness. Demons can’t be controlled. I must see Gwydion there must be another wayshe thought.

Modwenna and Silvermoon were exhausted and went to sleep shortly after the sunset. This allowed Gwendolyn to slip out of the cottage. A short time later she was floating in the air above the alter stone. ‘Gwydion, Gwydion where are you’? She desperately called.

‘Stay in the air’ he cried, as the invisible monster jumped swinging its arm at her only just missing, prompting her to float slightly higher.

‘Gwydion now listen carefully! I have much to tell and little time,’ said the young witch. So she told her story to the cursed wizard. ‘Modwenna plans to lead the demons to the Cradle of the Gods.’

Gwydion cried out from horror. ‘No! This cannot be allowed. If the demons won the ruby that has entrapped their powers everyone would be destroyed.’ She could hear the invisible creature slowly walking around the altar with its heavy footsteps p
