PREFACE TO THE SECOND EDITION.
I N preparing the Second Edition for the press such errors as have appeared in the original text and tables have been corrected, and while it is not to be hoped that all have yet been eliminated the continuous use of the book for over three years has failed to develop others. Beyond an explanation of the derivation of the last term in the Hazen and Williams formula, the changes are confined to that part of the book devoted to the flow of water over weirs, where some new matter relating to submerged weirs is presented in the text, and where the table of discharge by Bazin s formula has been extended to cover variations of head by 0.01 of a foot from zero to 6 feet, making in all a table of thirty pages instead of the two pages in the former edition. A table of discharge of high weirs 10, 20, and 30 feet, under heads from 6 to 20 feet has been added and a new title page has been written, giving a more correct description of the scope of the book, and the table of contents has been extended. These additions have all been made in response to requests or suggestions from users of the former edition, and it is believed they will appreciably increase the usefulness of the volume.

PREFACE TO THIRD EDITION.
A N EW C HAPTER , entitled, Additional Data, is added as a brief statement of how the old procedure for pipe flows fits with the numerous additional data now available. A plate has been added to show graphically the relations of the most important results both new and old. Minor additions and corrections have been made throughout the volume.
