CHAPTER 1
The New Kid
Omg I love training! The adrenaline, the workout, the feeling of power and strength when you pin your opponent down; This was my favorite part of the day
I stretched and then threw punches at a punching bag, my necklace swinging as I moved around
I was supposed to be training with some recruit, but he was running late.
“Yo! Quirky, energetic girl” I whizzed around startled as he entered the room, “I’m your partner for the day!”
A tall guy with brown spiky hair approached me. Our agency hired him after a recruiter spent some time spying at a martial arts class.
The recruiter, Agent 7.2, says he picked the most gifted individual from the place.
“We’ll see about that!” I thought as I eyed him
“So you’re the newbie Jorge found at that Karate place? This should be interesting!” I said, challenging him
“Oooh, quirky-looking girl is hotheaded too? Let’s put you in your place, shall we?” He said as he lunged forward and tried to get me in a headlock
“Man he cuts to the chase, he doesn’t even try to get me off guard, what a foolish dude” I thought as I elbowed him in the ribs, then went under his arm and out of his grasp.
I kicked him in the shins as I freed myself
Holding his ribcage and groaning, he glowered at me with rage.
We began to circle each other as we decided which moves to do next
“Huh, agency prodigy? You think you’re so great!” He taunted
“Oh, so you read up on me, good job newbie, looks like you did your homework!” I said
“Yeah right! You WISH you were that talented Agent 2.0 I heard about at orientation!”
“She is!” Our Commander, a man in is late thirties with black hair that matched his eyes, walked into the room.
The boy froze. “She-She is the legendary Agent 2.0 who killed the leader of an enemy agency at age seven!”
“Yup!” Commander praised me, “Expert sniper, exceptional at hand-to-hand combat, she’s one of the best agents we have!”
The boy stared at me, “We’ll see about that!” He said as he pounced on me in a very unprofessional manner and began to throw punches at me after I hit the ground.
I moved my head to dodge the punches and noticed that his moves were erratic. Maybe because he was trying so hard to impress the commander, who just stood there grinning at his unprofessional moves.
I rolled him off me and twisted his arm, then still holding his arms, I pinned him to the ground and sat on his back.
“Haha! I’d congratulate you but I don’t want the praises to seem redundant!” He laughed
I released the newb and offered him a hand to help him up
He got up and jumped on my back, leaning down and piercing my shoulder pressure points with both hands “Is this guy for real?” I said aloud as I jerked my head up and head-butted him in the jaw.
He leapt off me and staggered back
“You’re having too much fun, aren’t you?” Commander laughed
“Yeah!” I giggled, “This guy’s a riot”
“Well thanks for doing this. Sorry I gave you a newbie to train. Hurry and finish up with him so I can assign you your real mission!”
“OK! I’ll finish babysitting er I mean training, in a flash!” I saluted him
“Good girl” he saluted back and exited the room
“Babysitting!” Derrick glared at me, “Is that what you think this is?”
“Oh, I was just teasing” I said, good-naturedly, “I don’t wanna seem cocky so let’s start over” I said, catching his hand as he tried to throw a punch, “Hi, I’m 2.0, what’s your Agent number?”
“5.6” The boy said, “My number is higher than yours, so I guess that means I’m more skilled”
“Jeez you know nothing about the agency do you?” I said twisting his arm again and pulling him over me and throwing him down.
“Aaaaargh!” He yelled in pain
“Listen” I said in his ear as I knelt over him, “The numbers we’re assigned are completely random and they’re in decimal form so we can fit more people in a number.
It’s a simple method that everyone complains about because it lacks creativity!” I giggled, “But if better people got higher numbers than eventually there would be nobody with low numbers and the same high numbers would be probably used for multiple people, so they did it random to suit our huge population of agents”
“Oh” 5.6 said, “I guess that makes sense! Now can you please get off me! My arms have fallen asleep!”
I giggled again as I released him and helped him up. He stared at me for a while as we rose, and I couldn’t tell if he was still surprised that I was a strong agent or angry that I beat him up because he looked like a mixture of both!
“So, what’s your real name?” I asked cheerfully
“Derrick” he said in a robotic tone of voice
“I’m Joy” I said happily, “Nice to meet you!”
He continued to stare at me as I picked up my bag of training gear, swung it over my shoulders and walked out of the room.

CHAPTER 2
To get out friend back
I was excited. Commander had said that right after I was finished with “Agent” 5.6, he had a mission for me
I sprinted down the hall with a huge grin plastered on my face, I looooove missions! I hope it’s a serial killer on the loose or something exciting like that. High class crime rates have been pretty low recently and I’m sick of dealing with hit and run drivers.
“Hey Joy”
“Hey Girl!”
Two high class agents and my best friends greeted me as I passed them.
I walked over to them
“Hey Liz! Hey Macy!” I greeted them
Their numbers were 4.0 and 6.0 but I called them by their names.
Unprofessional but who cares!
“What are you guys up to?” I asked, leaning on the head of Macy’s cubicle
“Classified info!” They said smirking at me
“Oh come on!” I whined
“Just kidding. You’re Agent 2.0, the term ‘classified’ doesn’t apply to Agents of your stature!”
I blushed
“We’re analyzing a burglary. A break in just occurred at the Jefferson Mansion and we’re linking the incident to Jason Hill who just turned on the Agency and commited two crimes relates to stealing in the past week!”
“Jeez Jason doesn’t play!” I remarked, “And to think I thought he was a nice colleague!”
“Imagine how hard this is on Macy” Liz said as Macy looked at her shoes
“You OK Mace?” I asked putting an arm around her shoulder
“It’s just.....Jason was like a big brother to me since my Parents died. I just feels like I lose everyone dear to me!”
“You still have us!” Liz said hugging her
“That’s true, so you guys better be super careful on your missions. I can’t lose the closest things I have to sisters too” She said while hugging us
“Oh yeah, Joy, where were you headed?” Liz asked
“The commanders office. He has a mission for me”
“Just remember what I said Joy” Macy said, squeezing my hand, “Be careful!”
“I will Mace!” I waved at my friends and rushed to Commanders office
“Aw man I hope he won’t notice I’m a bit late!” I thought
“Sup 2.0” Agent 2.5 appeared in front of me, his black eyes glistening
I always tried to convince myself that agents are too cool for crushes but Agent 2.5 was just not the type of boy you could look away from.
“Pull it together girl. You don’t have time for this” My brain yelled at me
“ Don’t panic, just say hi and go on your way!”
“Uh hi” I said and brushed past him hurriedly. I arrived at Commander’s office and knocked on the door
“Come in 2.0 and 2.5, I have a mission for you two”
It was then that I noticed that 2.5, aka Jake Jensen, had followed be to the commanders office....
“For both of us?” I asked confused
“Yes. The two of you are the same level of experience, and the las
